"I know what honor is.
... It has been an honor to protect and serve all of you.
I faced death with the secure knowledge that you would not have to....
Never falter! Don't hesitate to honor and support those of us
who have the honor of protecting that which is worth protecting."

"Our nation is grateful to the fallen,
who live in the memory of our country.
We're grateful to all
who volunteer to wear our nation's uniform

let us never forget the sacrifices
of America's military families."

I know we've seen these words before here on FR. But Marine Staff Sgt. Dan Clay brings them to mind again. In fact, he and other hero's like him are the epitomy of them. God Bless him and his family. I repeat these words for him and his family at this time:
"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.
" ~~ John Stuart Mill ~~
" Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
"John Chapter 15 vs. 13; "
