Police orders in this sort of situation should be in the of "Do X", not "Don't do Y". And the victim told the officer he was in the military, so that's how the officer was supposed to know. And when the victim responded to whatever the officer said, by saying "I'm gonna get up", that should have have been a tip-off to the officer, who for the sake of argument we'll assume had said "Don't get up", that he needed to immediately rephrase his order as "Stay down", not that he needed to fire on the guy.

I agree that police are protected by policy. Stay within policy guidelines, apply common sense, and we the public will stand behind you. I get puzzled when folks look at a dark video of a police officer standing by himself at the end of a high speed pursuit and instantly judge him. Based on the evidence provided, I agree it looks bad for the officers judgment but I wasn't there. These police officers are our sons and daughters, we hire them, train them, and place them in harms way. Then when the MSM says "look at the horrible police" we trust the MSM opinion and jump on the officer like Pirhanna feeding on a rat. We owe the officers the benefit of a fair hearing without the biases pronounced on them by the MSM. The red flag here is the MSM constantly playing the lead that a "soldier" was shot by a cop. If you doubt the credibility of the MSM, you should always doubt it, not just when it suits your purpose.
