What part of the SOTU speech, where the President said "no amnesty" doesn't bay buchanan partner, tom tancredo, understand.
We have between 12-20 million illegals in this country.
Giving them the "right" to work here after they have broken our immigration law IS an amnesty.
And if you believe that they'll go home after their time here is done, I have a bridge in Arizona I'd like to sell you.
Wake up Dane. Talk is cheap. The Bush guest worker proposal is nothing but backdoor amnesty. You and your buds in the open border crowd have enjoyed the five years of inaction from this POTUS. Three more years of inaction and you'll be overjoyed.
So why would a guest worker program not be an amnesty if it allows illegal aliens already in the country to use it to stay here ? Do you believe in rewarding lawbreakers ?
And speaking of a guest worker program - explain to me the difference between it and indentured workers ?
Why don't we just open wide our immigration policies and allow everyone who wants to, to come to this country legally, get a job anywhere and do anything they want to, collect welfare, use our (free) government schools, get treatment at taxpayer expense in our hospital emergency rooms, drive on our roads, and on and on and on ?
The borders need to be secured and the rape of the American taxpayer to support these illegals needs to stop - BEFORE we consider a guest worker plan.
As soon as we turn off the taxpayer handouts to immigrants and close the borders to illegal entry, I'm all in favor of considering whether we need more immigrants than our current policy allows.
Deeds not words is what makes the difference.
Unfortunately, President Bush does not consider giving illegals guest worker visas an amnesty. The rest of us do.
"no amnesty" sound a lot like "no new taxes". I think it's genetic or something.
Bottom line Bush - will do nothing substantial about the border and the 'Crats will take the Senate this fall.
You reap what you sow. Sad, really sad.
Tom Tancredo is one of those guys who plays to a niche market. Of course he's gonna disagree with anything Bush says, because to do otherwise would alienate his niche supporters. He's very much like Pat Buchanan or the late David Hackworth in that respect.
I have no doubt of Tom's sincerity on the issue of illegal immigration -- he really does think it's a problem. And it really is a problem.
But Tancredo's history tells us that his first priority is to gain attention for Tom Tancredo. He's a loudmouth, arm-waver, and apparently very difficult to work with. One cannot expect him to be the agent of a workable solution to the problem.
What part of the "guest worker program is by definition amnesty" do YOU not comprehend??
Either he drops his guest worker crap or he'll be looking at a House asnd Senate that is no longer Republican.
McCain says "No amnesty" as well.
Actually what he said was ... rejects amnesty
And we must have a rational, humane guest worker program that rejects amnesty, allows temporary jobs for people who seek them legally, and reduces smuggling and crime at the border. (Applause.)
The current "guest worker" plan calls for the illegal immigrants to come in and register for a three year pass. At the end of that 3 years, they register for a 3 year extension.
So, let's say 80% of the illegals do that, and it's six years later. Is the government going to kick any 8 or 10 million "guest workers" out? Not a chance. If the feds were going to do that, they would've done it by now.
So, the "guest worker" program is, IN EFFECT, an amnesty program. Those programs never work.
Plus, once the program is certain of being passed by Congress, the current flood of illegals will become a tsunami of illegals trying to get in here to be grandfathered into the program.
The Bush plan to legalize legalize millions of illegal aliens is an amnesty according to Rep. James Sensenbrenner. Here is a link to an article in the Washington Times in which Rep. Sensenbrenner called it an amnesty: http://washingtontimes.com/national/20060124-111959-4121r.htm. Here is a copy of a portion of that article:
Rep. F. James Sensenbrenner Jr., the House point man on immigration, yesterday said that a guest-worker program like the one proposed by President Bush is amnesty and that he cannot accept it in a final immigration bill.
"A guest-worker program that applies to illegal aliens already here is an amnesty," the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee said in an interview with The Washington Times.
As the chief House negotiator in any House-Senate conference committee on immigration, he said voters will not accept a plan that amounts to amnesty, and said Mr. Bush's proposal would simply push the problem down the road.
"It seems to me that if you give these people the temporary cards, and the president talked a little bit about that yesterday out in Kansas, whether they are three-year cards or six-year cards or any other term, how do you get them to go back home when they expire?" he said. "We end up simply postponing the decision on what to do about illegal aliens until the end of the validity of these cards."
He also said when Congress and the White House agreed in December 2004 to increase the U.S. Border Patrol by 2,000 agents a year, then two months later the president only funded 210 positions, it "was embarrassing both to the administration and those of us who fought for increased assets for border protection in the intelligence bill and then were let down."
