No matter what the shirt said, did she really believe a t-shirt was appropriate for the State of the Union speech?

The wife of Rep. C.W. Bill Young, R-Indian Shores, told a newspaper that she was ejected during the State of the Union address for wearing a T-shirt that says, "Support the Troops Defending Our Freedom."

I saw video tape of Cindy Sheehan's as she zippered up her coat to cover the t-shirt. I couldn't read every word but there was a number 24?? and the word dead on the front of the t-shirt. The number was hand written in black magic marker and I assume was the latest body count figure for American soldiers in Iraq.

According to an AP story:

Sheehan, who was invited to attend the speech by Rep. Lynn Woolsey, D- Calif., was charged with demonstrating in the Capitol building, said Capitol Police Sgt. Kimberly Schneider. The charge was later changed to unlawful conduct, Schneider said. Both charges are misdemeanors.

Sheehan was taken in handcuffs from the Capitol to police headquarters a few blocks away. Her case was processed as Bush spoke.

Schneider said Sheehan had worn a T-shirt with an anti-war slogan to the speech and covered it up until she took her seat. Police warned her that such displays were not allowed, but she did not respond, the spokeswoman said.

I guess they need a sign that says "No T-shirts, tank-tops or flip-flops". Sheesh.

Gives a new meaning to the old statement "Dressed to the Tees".

Good news - it shows that the Bush Administration rejected ANY political statements on those fashionable T-shirts that some trie to wear, pro or con. That'll put some slippery stuff in the road as the MSM tries to get traction with Ban-Sheehan

Would've been cool if they'd put her in the same "holding are" as Sheehan; maybe she could've taught Sheehan a thing or two.

the wife of a politician attending an event such as the SOTU should know how to dress and she does. She too wanted to make a scene and garner attention. What's the matter lady? No attention otherwise. Grow up and act your age.

This is an incredible blessing! It completely destroys Sheahan's and the RATS martyr story.

Who cares if she was wearing a Tshirt. What a strange thing to be kicked out for.

i wonder if these same two females would wear t shirts to a nice restaurant, or a cocktail party? you would think they would have enough sense to realize that the SOTU is not the place for clothes most people wear when cleaning the barn!

Exactly! The SOTU is all about the President and the direction our country is headed. BY LAW, the President must present the SOTU and so, BY LAW, last night was his forum. It is NOT ABOUT someone's protest statements, or activism. And it certainly is an occasion, IMO, where a semblance of decorum would include a business-type dress or suit.

I'm glad this wife supports the troops but again, it was not her right to broadcast/banner it on a tshirt. Unacceptable and she should know better. Wear a US flag on the lapel and applaud the man in charge at the podium. There's your SUPPORT STATEMENT.

Young's husband found out about the incident after Bush's speech and called it unacceptable.

Here's another report of the quote:

"I just called for the chief of police and asked him to get his little tail over here," Young said. "This is not acceptable."

I'll bet that was a 'don't you know who I am and that's my wife' moment. Those laws are only meant for little tailed peons like you and mere citizens.

A rule is a rule if you allow this then you have to allow idiots like Cindy Sheehan to do their thing as well. Sorry sometimes we have to follow the rules.

You show your support, Ma'am, by wearing a lovely blue skirt and crisp white blouse with a bright red jacket and a flag pin on the lapel. You DON'T show your support for the troops by flaunting a slogan on a t-shirt at the SOTU. It's against the law, for both sides of the aisle. (Geez, don't these people read the laws they pass?)

The Capitol Police have a policy of no demonstrations in the House or Gallery. A t-shirt with a comment on it is considered a demonstration. Same reason Cindy Sheehan was ejected. It wasn't the content of the message, just the fact that there WAS a message on her shirt.
