The wife of Rep. C.W. Bill Young, R-Indian Shores, told a newspaper that she was ejected during the State of the Union address for wearing a T-shirt that says, "Support the Troops Defending Our Freedom."
Beverly Young told the St. Petersburg Times that she was sitting in the front row of the House gallery Tuesday night when she was approached by someone who told her she needed to leave.
She said she reluctantly agreed, but argued with several officers in an outside hallway.
In a telephone interview with the newspaper, Young said she told them her shirt wasn't a protest but a message of support.
Capitol Police Sgt. Kimberly Schneider said Young wasn't ejected from the gallery and she left on her own. She couldn't provide additional details.
Young's husband found out about the incident after Bush's speech and called it unacceptable.
SInce Sheehan is planning on getting a lawyer to sue for her ejection and arrest for wearing a politcal statement on her tee shirt, they can cite the treatment of Nelson's spouse for wearing one...albeit with an opposite point of view.
In my cynical mind, Nelson's wife was setup for this on purpose.
That is not what I said.
Women who want to be listened to and heard have to pick the right moment to make statements.
Sheehan seems to have picked many wrong moments as did the wife of the Florida's Rep.
My reference was the State of the Union is not a protest march.
You and Indy seem to have trouble in reading messages. Calm down and relax.
another moron. why would she wear a t shirt? no class
LOL - an unfortunate reflection of our society.
Well actually it is proper for ladies to wear hats inside a restaurant. But when do you ever see a lady wearing a hat anyway?
the wife of a politician attending an event such as the SOTU should know how to dress and she does. She too wanted to make a scene and garner attention. What's the matter lady? No attention otherwise. Grow up and act your age.
A wet t-shirt, maybe?
That's the confusing part of what you said.....I think I get it now....
Who cares if she was wearing a Tshirt. What a strange thing to be kicked out for.
My, what a devious mind you have...
When the kid behind the counter asks, "Do you want fries with that?", how many levels of motivation do you typically consider before giving your answer?
Just joshing you, but I'm sure your Karl-Rove-Put-Up-Job theory is accepted wisdom over at DU.
Of course, you may be right, here...
I can't believe you people are getting hung up on this. Apparently they let her IN wearing the Tshirt, it's not like she would have changed in the gallery.
We were in Milwaukee in 93 at the 90th anniversary. My husband, son, a friend and I went downtown to Milwaukee to go sight seeing. We came by a stripper bar and my son wanted to go in. He was refused entrance because the jeans he wore had a big hole in the knee. Needless to see none of us went in, but we are still laughing about it today
Here's another one.
that's a good point...
i wonder if these same two females would wear t shirts to a nice restaurant, or a cocktail party? you would think they would have enough sense to realize that the SOTU is not the place for clothes most people wear when cleaning the barn!
