The device pictured is Romanian ... the ChiComs also made them. I don't believe that any are new manufacture. I've never used one, so I can't comment on reliability or changes in handling qualities of the rifle.

I have a Chi Com 75 round drum. I have also put an RPD bipod and shoulder stock on my semi-auto AK-47. I use it to convert liberals who hate firearms.
I go to the range with a liberal friend(usually professor types), a case of cheap ammo, and 50 to 100 water filled plastic bottles or jugs. Balloons are good too. I give them a quick class on firing from a prone position and give them the next hour or so to work on the bottles.
Water filled plastic bottles blow up wonderfully! They bounce and blow and flip, so it's much more fun than putting holes in paper. When it's over we police the spent cases and recycle the plastic bottles. Liberals love recycling you know.
I haven't converted every anti-gunner that I've taken to the range, but all of them have softened their positions and one or two have actually purchased firearms. At least they know the real facts when I'm done with them. If they know the truth of the situation, we'll win.
The Chi Com drums open from the back so that you can load them pretty easily. I think the Romanian drums have to be loaded through the top of the drum like a standard magazine. There is a ratchet type spring tensioner on the outside of the Chi Com drum so that the drum can be kept fully loaded without putting a set in the spring.
The fact is that my AK is set up as a big clunky weapon that fires best from a bipod. (Read, crew-served weapon)That becomes obvious to my liberal friends when I make them carry the weapon themselves. It wouldn't be my first choice for gang banging. Not that I'm actually real clear on the whole gang banging concept to begin with.
