I do not know exactly how to do it, but have read that semi auto AK47 look alikes are among the most difficult to convert to full auto.

I guess it is possible that is what they were shooting but I would bet it is a real one which didn't require conversion.

Well, I've got a select-fire Finnish AK, a Valmet M-76F in 5.56/.223. Very controllable in full auto, and very accurate in semi-auto. Absolutely love it.
