I think the Romanian drums have to be loaded through the top of the drum like a standard magazine.

Yup. There's a lever on the front of the drum.

At rest, it's at approximately the 3 o'clock position. Pushing it counter-clockwise, to around the 12 o'clock position, depresses the spring enough to load a single round.

Based on the definition of an assault weapon, which you didn't scroll down the thread to read before popping off, an Assault Weapon is actually a powered down version of the OEM rifle. I assume to reduce collateral damage in an assault.

So, what I've been calling my Speed Loader is actually a "clip?"

"It's a scary weapon to face, and scary knowing there are people out there who have them," said Sullivan, a member of the police Street Crimes Unit.

Oh no, you might actually have to be a light infantryman for a few minutes ..... boo hoo.

To be honest, I don't see any reason assault weapons should be sold to the public.

It's called the Second Amendment.

I guess they don't know that just about ANY rifle bullet will go through a bullet proof vest.

"Assault weapon" is a propaganda term. Most often, anti-gunners classify firearms as "assault weapons" based based entirely on a firearms appearance (i.e. if it looks "scary" or is "military-style").

An "assault rifle" is specific type of firearm, with a very real definion, which is a matter of documented, historical fact (which is too often ignored by anti-gunners and the liberal media).

For anyone curious about "assault rifles" and their history, I recommend the entry in Wikipedia:  Assault Rifle

That particular weapon, said Sgt. John Delaney, "was out on the streets five days ago in the hands of a drug dealer."

It would sound like the primary problem is criminals and drugs, not the particular weapon.

Even if it was possible to confiscate ALL their weapons, the essential problem would still be there.

More propaganda from elements of the antigun community upset that the expiration of the useless 1994 AWB hasn't resulted in more bloodshed.

Deputy Agitprop can worry all he wants - the cold, hard facts are that bad guys almost NEVER select rifles or pseudo "assault weapons" to commit crimes.

The gun of choice for the hoodlum remains the compact, small caliber pistol or revolver.

"I went through it in what, five seconds?"

"said a machine gun capable of firing as many as 400 rounds per minute, can do."

More like 10 seconds, but who's counting?

Here's a link that shows AK Mags that hold 30, 40, 50, and 75 rounds.

http://www.outdoorsuperstore.com/store/products/productDisplay~manufacturer~National+Magazines~model~AK-47+Magazine.htm

Besides the drums, I was was pretty sure I'd seen mags that would hold that much.

Wow!. That 75 rd banana mag is amazing.

With that much curve, I have to wonder about its reliability.

Yup. Nice magazines, though I have to wonder how reliable the 50rd and 75rd mags are.

I don't know. They have a 70 rd for the Ar. Maybe I should try one. :-)

By all means! All else being equal, I'd expect a huge AR mag to run better than a huge AK mag. There's a whole lot less taper in the 5.56mm cartridge than the 7.62x39, hence a whole lot less curve in the AR magazine.

Maybe not an old Motor City block, but some of the newer lightweight ones, for sure.

"Do you know what an "assault weapon" is"?

I do. A submachine gun shoots a pistol round, like a 9mm or .45 ACP. A full size rifle shoots a full sized rifle round, like a .30-06 or a .308 or an 8mm. An assault rifle shoots a round of intermediate power that is more powerful than a pistol round and less powerful than a full sized rifle round. It also has a selector switch for either semi-auto or full automatic fire. It is also smaller than a full sized battle rifle. One advantage of an assault weapon is that more ammo can be carried into battle because the ammo is lighter.

I do.

you do, but I doubt "popdonnelly" does. Personally I think that any gun you can afford you ought to be able to buy.
