ABC NOW FEARING A MASS TUNEOUT (The Brokeback Oscars Effect)
NY Post ^ | 2/1/06 | DON KAPLAN

"Brokeback Mountain" and a slew of other arty, less-widely seen Oscar-nominated flicks are expected to take the polish off ABC's ratings for the Academy Awards this year.

With no big-budget films like "Titanic," "Gladiator" or "Lord of the Rings: Return of the King" in this season's crop of nominees, ABC may be staring down the barrel of one of the lowest-rated Oscar telecasts in recent memory when it airs on March 5, say TV-industry analysts.

There was a time in this country -- not that very long ago -- when folks folks didn't judge an actor by his/her politics.

That's because back in that time most actors kept their politics to themselves.

I'm sure some have tried sticking ...........BrokeyourButt AmountinYou.................... where the Sun don't shine.

I don't think that some people understand just how debilitating that homosexuality makes the person involved with this perverse lifestyle.

Homosexuals can never be in the mainstream of life until they completely destroy any semblance of the traditional family.

"So why is it not up for an Oscar? No Gay dinosaurs,"

On the contrary. All dinosaurs were gay. That is why they are extinct.

"but then, I haven't watched it since my wife died."

Sorry about your loss, but you are correct. The only people who willing watch this junk are women and gay guys. The 98% of non-liberal straight guys who end up watching only do it to make their wives or girlfriends happy.

The last time I watched it was like 8 years ago, just to make a girl happy. I'm glad I haven't been caught in that trap since.

When you said "the lead actor was gay", I thought you were talking about "End of the Spear". That would have been weird.

If an actor gives a good performance, I don't care what his/her politics is or isn't. So few people know how to act these days, I'm not going to trim my list even more.

We could set up the categories Best Film, Actor, Actress, etc. And the Freepers could vote on one of the threads March 5th.

Yes, Chad Allen is. There have been all sorts of threads around FR with people agonizing over seeing it for that reason. Here's a quick tidbit from another site:

http://www.bpnews.net/bpnews.asp?ID=22496

Someone posted a Christianity Today article here on FR about the "dilemma" of hiring a gay actor for the part.

My wife and I usually see most award nominated films, during the year. We mostly avoid being influenced by the political hype, such as what I see on FR.

I saw Capote and felt the acto gave an award quality performance.

Saw Munich. It is over rated. Sure, Spielberg makes good movies. Sure, he portrays a neutral position. Not worth all the hype.

Saw Walk the Line, liked it. Same for North Country, Match Point, Constant Gardener.

Having said all that, I don't plan to see Bareback Mountain.

There is no "may" to it, and in this case their fear is justified.

I haven't watched the Oscars in over a decade, mostly because I was just too busy.

But ever since they gave Micky Moore an Oscar for his anti-gun rights hit piece disguised as a "documentary", I have consciously avoided the Oscars.

At the rate they are going I expect the Oscars to cease be televised at all in just a couple more years.

The Oscars, coming (only) to tabloid rag near you!

See it as soon as you can. What an amazing movie. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Pick up any book about Clift or Liz Taylor and there will references all through it talking about Clift's homosexuality.

...everyone not interested in Hollywood's charade can participate in an alternative over the Internet perhaps on Free Republic. Lets put together how own award show on the net for the best films. This would come from real people, Americans would made the box office winners successful. Screw Hollywood!

Good idea!

Not one of those movies got me off my butt and into the theater this year. Sad to say. Last movie I really liked was The Aviator.

Thanks. Sounds as though Lee should have used his sissors more, but if he had, then the film would not have received all the laurels.

Well, Hollywood. Here's an unfamiliar fact to ponder:

CHOICES HAVE CONSEQUENCES.

Fox should run a "24" marathon of last year's series.
