During Good Morning America on Monday, I believe it was Diane Sawyer who made the observation that perhaps Woodruff's being so badly injured would be the "tipping point" in the war, that he was someone so well-known that it would be "one person too many".

When I heard the guy's name, I didn't recognize it. But when I saw his picture, I thought "Oh yeah, the guy with the weird eyebrows."

Yup, the world revolves around the "pretty people" of MSM. Unbelievably narcissistic. It's disgusting.

In a Democratic world......

Pretty Hollywood people set the moral tone for the country,

Jesse Jackson and Slick AL represent all blacks,

If Clinton doesn't get his hair fixed just right, it's a national crisis,

And then there's carrot boy Gore and metro sexual Kerry,

etc, etc, etc.....

Go be a frikkin' librarian and make sure there aren't two books of the same title in your local library. Sheesh.

LOL

What happened to the "boot camp" for journalist that was required before they were allowed to be embedded? Don't the military require that anymore?

From my military experience, there is always a convoy briefing just before the start time. The convoy commander stated the immediate intell for the area, procedures to follow if attacked, and all certainty immediate information, always followed by, "keep your head down, your equipment on, and your ass strapped down.

This was a convoy, to move from point "A" to point "B". It was not a "search for IED" mission. The journalist should have followed established convoy procedures.

"That leaves the uncomfortable question about how much the media, or the American public, cares about the injured who are less well known, but in just as dire straits."

Certainly there's a double standard. Worse -- slanted Liberal, anti-US reporting costs lives.

In the past I've posted threads that have had local stories of individuals killed in Iraq or Afghanistan. Many times those threads only have had a handful of responses. Before we start blaming "the MSM" - whatever that is - let's take a look at how WE view and respond to the stories of the fallen heroes who come from Anywhere, USA.

I've seen several good news stories on Balad Hospital that I know I wouldn't have seen had it not been for this incident.

"It's a bit stunning to us over here how absolutely dominant the story is on every network and front page. I mean, you'd think we lost the entire 1st Marine Division or something.

I see two reasons for the coverage.
The two men were personally known to many in the MSM, they were not anonymous.
Many in the MSM consider reporters and cameramen the2nd most important people in the world – the most important are the evening newsreaders.

"I agree 100% with this article..."

And I agree with you. I don't know Woodruff's motivation or his understanding of the risks before he took his trip. Thankfully it looks like he will survive. It will be interesting to see how this story spins out.

GREAT Post joyce11111 !!! Keep it up!!! Keep em coming!!!

Re. the article, my sentiments exactly.

Gee, what a shame.... ahhh, that a left-wing journalist was attacked that is. And from those nice extremist "insurgent freedom fighters" no less. Gee, the left-wing media has given them every bit of help they possibly can! How could those "insurgent freedom fighters" possibly do this?
And I read that NBC anchor Brian Williams is praying for him??? "Brian Williams said he had been in touch with Woodruff's family and is praying for the families of both men". Really. How does a liberal, left-winger pray, just out of curiousity? In the name of Jesus? Naw, that would be too inflamatory and offensive to other religions. Maybe he prays in Allah's name or in the name of the Great Divine One if He Really Exists!!!

I personally feel that about 5000 other liberal/left-wing MSM should flood the country right now and search diligently for the "insurgent freedom fighters" in order to understand them better. sarc>

Seriously, I care far more about our troops and the GREAT job they are doing in Iraq & Afghanistan, far more than I do about Woodruff & Vogt, or the rest of liberal/left-wing lunatic media!

Insurgents Regret ABC News Friendly-Fire Incident

By Scott Ott, Editor-in-Chief, ScrappleFace.com
News Fairly Unbalanced. We Report. You Decipher.

(2006-01-30) — Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, leader of al Qaeda in Iraq, today expressed his regrets to ABC News for the injuries sustained by anchor Bob Woodruff and a videographer in what Mr. Zarqawi called, “this tragic incident of friendly fire.”

“The American news media has always treated us well,” the al Qaeda leader said in a printed statement. “We were trying to kill U.S. and Iraqi soldiers when this unfortunate accident occurred. We pray to Allah for the swift recovery of the injured, and hope they can be back on the job soon.”

A spokesman for ABC News said a preliminary investigation showed that the improvised explosive device (IED) which wounded Mr. Woodruff and his colleague Doug Vogt, was triggered by “an imperialist occupation of Iraq after the U.S. overthrew the nation’s duly-elected president, yet failed to find weapons of mass destruction.”
