January 25, 2006--Thirty-two percent (32%) of Americans say they will definitely vote for Senator Hillary Clinton if she runs for President in 2008. Thirty-nine percent (39%) will definitely vote against her.

The former First Lady is viewed as politically liberal by 46% of voters (up from 39% two weeks ago). Thirty-three percent (33%) see her as politically moderate (see trends).

Demographic crosstabs are available for Premium Members.

Collectively, today?s Hillary Meter places Senator Clinton a net 53 points to the left of the nation's political center. That's the closest to the political center she has been since we began bi-weekly polling last year. As with all tracking polls, it remains to be seen whether this is a lasting improvement or merely statistical noise.

[Explanation of the political center and more data below]

The political center is calculated by subtracting the number of liberals from the number of conservatives among the general public (35% conservative, 18% liberal for a net +17). For the Senator, 1% conservative minus 46% liberal equals a net minus 36. The minus 28 reading for Senator Clinton is 53 points away from the plus 17 reading for the general public.

Nationally, 41% of Americans have a favorable opinion of New York's junior Senator while 41% hold an unfavorable view. Demographic crosstabs are available for Premium Members.

Thirty-one percent (31%) of Americans say New York's junior Senator is "very likely" to win the Democratic nomination in 2008. Another 31% say she is "somewhat likely" to be the party's nominee.

The Hillary Meter is a twice monthly measure of Senator Hillary Clinton's effort to move to the political center. The next update is scheduled for Wednesday, February 8, 2006. For as long as the former First Lady is a viable candidate for the White House, Rasmussen Reports will monitor public perceptions of her political ideology.

American Conservative Union Rating: Hillary Clinton
2004 - 0 (0 to 100 scale)
2003 - 10
Lifetime - 9

This indicates to me that 54% of the sample consists of morons.

These numbers are GREAT for us! If she is the frontrunner in '08 just wait until Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity and the rest of conservative media starts to expose her record. She doesn't scare me. She has never done anything politically sound that isn't transparantly fake.

She's not going to fly in any of the red states. And you know what else? She's ugly. It's not an ad hominem attack...it's a fact. She's shrill. When she gets excited she's like finger nails on a chalk board. The vast middle of the country remembers Hillary-care and if not, they will be reminded. I HOPE she is what the Democrats throw our way. I'd be much more concerned about Mark Warner.

"Don't forget the ankles!"

I don't care what my politicians look like. Condi could look like Helen Thomas and I would vote for her. Hillary could look like Cindy Crawford and I wouldn't vote for her!

I don't care about looks. You don't care about looks. But SOME people DO care. Remember all those women in the 90's that were giddy over Clinton? It shouldn't be that way. But it is. And in Hillary's case, her attractive qualities, or lack thereof, only helps the Republicans...as long as none of our people publicly call her ugly. Then she can play the sympathy card like she did with Lazio in her 2000 senate run.

I agree. She hides her true beliefs, lies and obfuscates. She scares the c--- out of me as a President. I understand that when young she was an apostle of Norm Chomsky!
