The grass-roots arm of the California Republican Party is backing Gov. Schwarzenegger, the group's president said Monday.

The California Congress of Republicans met over the weekend at the Mission Inn in Riverside, where delegates passed resolutions supporting Schwarzenegger and his massive plan to rebuild the state's roads, bridges and schools.

Delegates also unanimously rejected two resolutions criticizing Schwarzenegger's political appointments and spending proposal, said Carl Burton, president of the group.

Schwarzenegger has come under fire recently for hiring a prominent Democrat as his chief of staff and for his $125.6 billion budget proposal for 2006-07.

The delegates endorsed several candidates for the June primary, including Secretary of State Bruce McPherson, who is seeking re-election, and state Sen. Tom McClintock, R-Thousand Oaks, who is running for lieutenant governor. They also gave their support to controller candidate state Sen. Abel Maldonado, R-Santa Maria; attorney general hopeful state Sen. Chuck Poochigian, R-Fresno; and insurance commissioner candidate Steve Poizner, who is a businessman.

Michelle Steel and Eric Siddall, candidates for the Board of Equalization's 3rd and 4th districts, also were endorsed.

I'm not sure folks like this would be called "Republicans" in most places...

"Opportunists," maybe.

...They also gave their support to controller candidate state Sen. Abel Maldonado...

So, are they preempting a primary here, too?
So nice that they endorse the pro-gun control guy who introduced the minimum wage bill this year. /s

You'd think that partisans would at least wait until March 10 to see who is running for office before they make recommendations.

Oh... I missed this part. Looks like lining up against Ray Haynes, too!
Michelle Steel and Eric Siddall, candidates for the Board of Equalization's 3rd and 4th districts, also were endorsed.
Why bother to have primaries?

Who, CRA?

No.

Grass roots, eh? Yeah, right.

This sentence is bull-crap. I already sent an email to the paper demanding to know why they would write this. The CCR is just one more volunteer group -- a relatively liberal one at that.

The California Republican Assembly will be meeting in Bakersfield in a couple of weeks, and the endorsements will be VERY different. The CRA is the largest and OLDEST Republican volunteer group in the country.

I'm assuming your objection was to the first word in the article. You would have preferred they used the article A for the sake of accuracy.

That sort of poor editing may be attributable to the size of the publication rather their editorial agenda.

It is bullcrap straight from the CCR's mouth:

"California Congress of Republicans. CCR, the largest statewide, all encompassing, grassroots, chartered organization, overwhelmingly endorsed our new Governor!"

Of course, saying it is so doesn't make it true.

Thank goodness you were here to set the record straight on these flaming, miserable "moderates!" I call them "miserable," because they just cannot stand that so much of the CA Repubs success in most of the 90's was due to the righteous conservatives harder work, better organization and overall zeal for "doin the Lord's work!"

They want the CA Republican Women Federated, to do nothing but gossip and take shopping trips to Nordstroms! I kid you not!! I've seen this with my own lyin eyes and heard it with my own lyin ears right here in the most conservative bastion of Northern CA!!!

They want all religious/social conservatives or anyone that could be described as a fundamentalist, whether that be religious fundamentalist, or constitutional fundamentalist OUT OF THE DANGED PARTY!!!

They insultingly call such fine people that work harder for the Party, "The Republican Taliban!" They are aflicted with some kind of needless "embarrassment" over conservatives, thinking them to be knuckle dragging neanderthals that make them feel guilty all the time over being moderate/pro choice Repubs!

This is probably where some of the conflict that occurs right here on FR on these CA threads is coming from, without a doubt!!! The premptory challenges as to who are "better Republicans" and "better Conservatives" is rooted in this non-productive power struggle and needs to be put to rest back under the Reagan 11th commandment!!!

If you check out the CCR website, it isn't much of a group. Either that or they can't find any one in their not-so-vast gaggle of grassroots supporters that can put information on a website. Their endorsements haven't been updated since the Nov 2004 election. They have nothing on their 'calendar' page, not even their own convention. Their last newsletter was June 2005. etc. etc.

Looks like a 'grass roots' front company for the Lincoln Club to me.

Ideologues depend upon partisans to implement philosophy. When partisans refuse, bending to expediency, that's the partisan's privilege. Conversely, the ideologue's privilege is to refuse to support the partisan's cause.

There is only one effective way for ideologues to defeat the malignancy of expediency. Become principled advocates against the partisan's unprincipled behavior and promotions. Work actively toward the detriment of their candidates and programs.

The 11th Commandment is not appropriate under the current circumstance in California. The scales are skewed so far to the left in California by the influence of the Utopian left that those in the Republican Party who were once refereed to as moderates, by more conservative Republicans, are today, simply liberals.

Moderate California Republicans today seek larger government, broader authorities to infringe personal rights and promote an increased financial participation in government by the electorate. They masquerade under the cover of the plausibility of their very faint, conservative virtues, while usurping liberal policies to maintain political relevancy in system corrupted by liberals. They are liberals.

Many years ago a guide at the San Diego Zoo lost her good nature after being constantly interrupted by the corrections of an academic regarding the generalized descriptions in her canned presentation. Reaching her limits, she not so politely retorted: "If it looks like a water buffalo and smells like a water buffalo it is water buffalo!".

Wasp, regardless of whether a Republican moderate feeds from the conservative trough, or bellows their pedigree with conviction, their public flatulence still has a liberal order. They're simply liberals and they need to be culled from the herd.

Hopefully the domestic McCaniac next door will strut his stuff. In the excitement and the throws of titillation, they'll charge the common fence and leave our pasture for new adventures and a better brand of bull.

Oh, they got a chapter up here in the County Seat of Placer County headed up by a muddled moderate from the car insurance industry and an editor-publisher of a weekly rag that's greener than a 3 dollar bill, plus a few other lost souls trying desperately to find any possible way to unseat John T. Doolittle (described as "John T. Demagog" in her pathetic "free" GANG-GREEN leftist newspaper)!!!

They've put together such wonderful land-grabbing schemes as "Placer Legacy" and organic pharming schemes like "Placer Grown," which I prefer to call Placer Groan!!! It just tickles the bleep outta me everytime Doolittle frustrates their measley pathetic efforts!!!

I'm smiling now, just thinking about it! It's almost like the Coyote chasin the Road Runner every election cycle of two years!!! Now they're startin to git all orgasmic over the non-starter where John's concerned of the Abramoff baloney since they seem to have "gotten" his buddy Tom DeLay with it... I still think that's bogus, too!!!
