Dhaka (dpa) - At least 25 people were killed in accidents during a week-long exodus of Bangladeshis from Dhaka on crowded buses, trains and ferries to join relatives for the Muslim festival of Eid-ul-Adha, officials said Tuesday.
About 500 others were injured in more than 35 mishaps recorded nationwide since January 22, when most public transport travelled beyond capacity.
``We had pressed into service half a dozen extra trains but still many people were seen travelling on the roofs of these special trains,'' said a senior railway official who cannot be named.
More than 80 per cent of Bangladesh's 130 million residents are Sunni Muslims while other religious and ethnic minorities are Hindus, Buddhists, Christians and animists.
Bus accidents on motorways accounted for most of the casualties.
Too Bad....
Gotta love it...
Sounds like the religious festival had a predictable, fulfilling and successful outcome. Where there are three or more of them gathered...can death be far behind?
I have nothing to say on this matter.
This HAS to be a tempting topic for Bill Handel of KFI! :-)
"....lets stop shooting those AK-47s in the air now people...someone may get hurt...."
Awww, darn.
They need to fire more AKs straight up in the air.
And maybe a few RPGs, too.
That is really to bad! Ha, ha,ha,ha. Sorry! Just could not help myself.
Can't these people do ANYTHING without getting themselves killed?
What can you expect when their favorite method of celebrating involves firing live rounds of ammo into the air (over the heads of the celebrants)?
Maybe they missed the class on 'what goes up, must come down'.
And the one about 2 bodies not fitting into the same space at the same time? That seems to be the one that keeps getting them killed off.
The law of gravity is not in the sharia therefore it doesn't apply to them
I know the male Muslims/ Moslems/Islamabadadads go to heaven with a gang of virgins awaiting them. but I never heard what awaits FEMALE Moslems when they die. Anyone know??
A rather poor showing.
They should try harder.
I think the muzzies need more festivals!
I wish every day was a Muslim holiday.
