I actually think that many on the left either are just in denial that the country is not as liberal as they think, or have come to that realization and and having a hard time dealing with it. But you are correct in saying they are @$$holes.
You got that right.
Nothing "filthy" about it. It is a beautiful place with lots of fine people...
However, your two GOP senators are Republicans in name only. Margaret Chase Smith they ain't.
Maine is a long way from what it used to be: A bastion of strong and free individuals who relied on themselves to get through life and not the government.
A similar situation has occurred In Vermont. Once it was a state of stalwart individuals. Now it is, more than ever before, a repository of whining liberals who are outraged at everything. This is due, largely, to folks moving there from Massachusetts - the epicenter of extremely liberal thinking in New England.
I love Monhegan Island. Loaded with some crazy artists, bless'em, but as beautiful a place as I've ever seen.
I like Maine, too. Please don't take offense.
..and Bill Clinton is like a brother......
I just take offense to the "filthy" part. Which has no basis in reality. You can argue the rest of it all day long, and that's fine. There has been a growth in government here, but there are plenty of us fighting that.
As for MCS, I agree that neither of Maine's current senators are her equal. She was someone who stood by her ideals no matter what.
I suspect, as someone said earlier, that she is jumping on the bandwagon of Susan Collins, the other Republican senator from Maine. Collins is somewhat more reliable than Snowe, but not much.
Keep up the good fight. Maine is important to America!
The state government is almost equally divided between the two parties.
And the last time the Republican Presidential nominee got more that 44% of the vote there was 1988.
We have two GOP senators.
Who are both the darlings of the Hollywood left and the New York Times.
And we believe in fiscal responsibility and personal privacy.
And you have a Governor who proudly proclaims that he's a Communist.
(Just for the record, please understand that I'm not saying that *all* folks in Maine are filthy...just a clear majority)
I'm no defender of Baldacci (voted for Peter Chinchette lat election) but he's never declared himself a Communist.
Also, we have one of the largest percentage of independent voters in the nation. So vote total for Presidental Elections are not party-splits, but often result from narrowly-tailored electoral decisions. I know plenty of people who didn't vote for Bush in 2004 because of his profligate spending habits. That's hardly "filthy"
I just disagree with the use of the word.
Don't make jokes like that.
Wow! Yesterday I chose to write one swing Senator that I thought could make a difference...and I picked Snowe....SHE MUSTA GOT MY LETTER! Guess I owe her a thank you note!
