BAGHDAD (Army News Service, Jan. 27, 2006) – A series of tips here enabled coalition forces of the Multi-National Division, Baghdad, to bust insurgent shooters and bombers, and led to several caches of weapons, explosives and ammunition.

Soldiers from 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment found a roadside improvised explosive device south of Baghdad Jan. 25. The bomb, comprised of three daisy-chained charges placed in oil barrels with 30 to 40 pounds of homemade explosives in each barrel, was destroyed by Explosive Ordnance Disposal.

Later in the day Soldiers from the 2nd Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment discovered a weapons cache of mostly explosives and fuses. The 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Battalion cordoned off an area and detained two insurgents following a tip from a local national. The detainees had a diagram of a planned ambush on coalition forces and a pistol.

Shooters captured, caches confiscated – Jan. 23

Iraqi soldiers manning a checkpoint in central Baghdad Jan. 23 came under attack by insurgents who fled in a vehicle.

An Iraqi army patrol received a tip from a local national of the vehicle’s location. The patrol found the vehicle and detained three suspected terrorists, confiscating ammunition and money.

Additionally, the MND-B Soldiers found six weapons caches southwest of Baghdad. The caches consisted of IED components, communications equipment, rifles, a Dishka heavy machine gun and ammunition.

Cavalry troopers tipped, find big cache – Jan. 22

Responding to a tip, a cavalry patrol from Troop A, 7th Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment found a large weapons cache north of Baghdad about noon Sunday.

“It was a great find,” said Maj. David Olson, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division. “It is great to see people standing up and doing their civic responsibility to help maintain a safe and secure environment for their fellow citizens by providing tips such as this one.”

The troopers found a complete 120 mm mortar system, 14 rockets, 21 artillery rounds, 19 B-5 rocket fuses, 50 hand grenades, and a wide assortment of other ammunition.

We should have a new policy on these insurgents.
No arrest, Kill them were they are!
