Grijalva criticizes governor's approach to illegal immigration (Raol sez: "I am NOT a racist!")

Democratic U.S. Rep. Raul Grijalva of Arizona has criticized Gov. Janet Napolitano's steps to crack down on illegal immigration, saying her border plans are an insult to Mexican-Americans.

The governor has taken steps for state authorities to confront Arizona's immigration problems and has proposed a $100 million plan that includes new state police squads focused on border security and millions of dollars for communities to tackle border-related woes.

The governor also is asking the military to pay for stationing an unspecified number of National Guard troops at Arizona-Mexico border. The state already has about 170 National Guard troops stationed at the border to assist federal and state officers.

Public pressure is mounting for state politicians who face re-election races this year to confront the problem. Arizona is the busiest illegal entry point along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Grijalva said Napolitano's new immigration policy is an insult to Mexican-Americans and that "Anglo-Saxon men make the strategy for her," according to an article in Bajo El Sol, the Spanish language weekly sister publication of The Sun in Yuma.

In response to The Sun's questions about his criticism, Grijalva said: "I'm not saying the governor's policy is racist or jaded. All I'm saying is that it is not inclusive, and it should have included more people."

Napolitano spokeswoman Pati Urias said the governor consults with a number of people, including Latinos in Phoenix and border communities, when shaping immigration policy.

Marco Lopez, the former mayor of Nogales who now serves as executive director of the Arizona-Mexico Commission, is one of the governor's advisers on immigration and border issues.

Urias said Grijalva's criticism hasn't created a rift between the two Democrats.

Yuma County Republican Vice Chairman David Lara said the congressman's "Anglo-Saxon" reference was racist and that Grijalva should apologize.

Grijalva said his remark wasn't racist, nor was he being critical of Napolitano.

He said he was disappointed in Napolitano's immigration policy and that her enforcement-only approach to the problem "took the wind out of the sail of comprehensive reform."

Grijalva said he supports enforcement of immigration laws but not an "enforcement-only approach."

"You've got to have more than that," Grijalva said.

Public pressure is mounting for state politicians who face re-election races this year to confront the problem.

Grijalva criticizes Janet's election-year pandering. Napolitano has previously opposed all attempts to implement Prop. 200, but apparently there is enough public pressure to force her hand a bit. But according to Rep. Grijalva, only Anglo-Saxons are for it, and on his planet his remarks aren't racist. According to polls 47% of Arizona's Hispanic population was for Prop 200, in spite of all the BS propaganda against it.

By *coincidence*, the President of Iran's President’s chief strategist, Hassan Abbassi, also made an "Anglo-Saxon" reference last week, as in calling for the destruction of the Anglo-Saxon nations.

Janet's remarks aren't racist or jaded. They're 100% political. I heard that the Republican mayor of Avondale is thinking of running against this Grijalva idiot.

Democratic U.S. Rep. Raul Grijalva is an agent of Mexico and is a disgrace to America.

So, if the governor had more hispanics advising her, yet came up with the same solutions, that would be ok?

Grijalva is a racist (La Raza) horse's hiney.

i don't understand how he could say this... but I h'm having kind of a deja vue feeling - I recently had dinner with a family who emigrated legally to the U.S. from Europe right after WW2. They are a a great American success story. They didn't get rich or famous but he became a carpenter and then a contractor. She became a chemist and retired from doing cancer research for a pharmaceutical company. Two kids both went to good colleges and are raising families. They are all Lutherans and were sponsored by a Southern Baptist Church.

They defend today's illegal immigrants. They talk about the advantages of cheap labor and how hard the Mexicans seem to work.

They don't see what to me is the HUGE distinction between legal and ilegal immigrants.

And there is a lot of that thinking. Good people who don't take this situation seriously.

"Grijalva is a "Quisling"!"

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God."

Any clown with the name Raoul makes me suspicious. How come he doesn’t have an Anglo first name? Used to be that immigrants were proud to adopt an Anglo first name and gave their children Anglo first name as a sign of pride in being in America. Because to be in America is a blessing, every illegal alien knows this.

It's freaking against the law; that's why they call it illegal!

It seems Mayor Giuliani was one, and one of the few, who had the common sense to know that letting the "little" crimes go leads to bigger ones. And attitude that "I got away with that one, nobody did anything about it, so I might as well go for it." That's how he cleaned up NYC, by cleaning up Times Square, and getting the windshield washer extortionists off the streets, etc. He went after the crime problem at its roots, and that's why NYC is one of the safest big cities in the world right now.

And I should add that Tucson, AZ has the highest property crime rate in the country. Phoenix is near the top. So, there is a big "I can get away with it" problem here.

The mayor of Avondale has announced that he is running against Grijalva. His name is Ron Drake and his website is www.drake4congress.com. I think this is the year to get Grijalva out of office

All true and good but never forget that Rudy Guiliani was very happy with illegal immigration. He never had a bad word to say about it

I'm insulted they made no mention of us Anglo-Celts. We're at least as nasty and perfidious as Anglo-Saxons.

If he had said anything about it in NYC, would he have gotten elected?
