DEAN UNDER FIRE FROM PARTY DEMS; NEARLY ALL CASH SPENT Mon Jan 30 2006 10:52:31 ET
Democratic leaders on Capitol Hill are privately bristling over Howard Deans management of the Democratic National Committee and have made those sentiments clear after new fundraising numbers showed he has spent nearly all the committees cash and has little left to support their efforts to gain seats this cycle, ROLL CALL reports.
Congressional leaders were furious last week when they learned the DNC has just $5.5 million in the bank, compared to the Republican National Committees $34 million.
Senate and House Minority Leaders Harry Reid (Nev.) and Nancy Pelosi (Calif.), along with the Senate and House campaign committee chairmen Charles Schumer (N.Y.) and Rahm Emanuel (Ill.), have made their concerns -- directly or indirectly -- known to Dean, claims the paper.
Emanuel was particularly upset last week upon seeing the latest DNC numbers.
A lot of people are scratching their heads as to whats going on, said one senior Democratic aide.
Another Democratic source familiar with the party fundraising apparatus said there is obvious displeasure among the leaders.
Developing...
Dean spent all the $$$ on getting himself these powers:
"YOU'RE FIRED!!!"
They only have the equivalent of $5 in their bank account, yet they have the temerity to suggest that THEY should be telling US how to live our lives? The Greeks should have created a more demeaning term than "hubris".
Former multimillionaire English soccer player George Best was known for a similar statement. Asked how he'd ended up impoverished in his old age, he said, "I spent most of my money on fast cars, drink, and women... the rest I just wasted."
(or maybe it was cars, drink, and fast.....)
I thought the Dem Senatorial Campaign had GOBS of money. I eally do not believe this story.
Dems were making the point today that
most of the money that once went to
the DNC now goes to the 527's.
"We are going to Oregon, Florida, Maine, Arizona, then Michigan, Delaware, Tennessee, Iowa and onto Washington DC ... Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeow!"
Hillary's PAC could turn into another party. She could steal the party.
Was the cash spent or siphoned?
If I were the Dems, I'd demand an outside accounting.""
More Clinton economics, I suspect.
The DNC needs an internal corruption investigation.""
Since the Dems are totally inept at investigating their own, and particularly where any type of accounting is concerned, I see this as a real joke.
The Dems all turned their heads at the accounting of Hillary's campaign tricks with Peter Paul.
They all turned their heads when the Whitewater scandal came to light.
They all turned their heads when Al Gore got huge campaign contributions from nuns with a vow of poverty.
I could go on and on, and so can most Freepers.
More than any other group in society, the Dems have set themselves up for this problem. They have laughed off most standard accounting principles. Now it is coming home to roost. Being a bookkeeper all my life, I can only enjoy the smile on my face.
My vote is that he chair the party for life! Of course when the Arkie crowd gets serious life could get shorter..."next stop Mountain Top Retirement Village Mr. Brown..."
LOL. You and me, too. If donors have a brain in their heads, they won't donate another darn dime until there's been an outside audit of the DNC's books.
Both sets.
Broke back Mountain?
I can't answer your question.
However, I did want to point out that you are the only one who provided a thoughtful comment on the the story. Seems that everybody else is still in full "quip" mode, and haven't yet engaged their gray matter.
Seems that everybody else is still in full "quip" mode, and haven't yet engaged their gray matter.Quip mode is good. It's part of what makes this site so interesting. There is a good mix here of quips and thoughtful posts. If a particular article has more quips than analysis, it probably means that either the issue's already been hashed over a thousand times and there isn't that much can be "meaningfully" added, or there story isn't all that analysis-worthy to begin with.
What can we say to a story about the financial failures of Howard The Loser? The subject itself invites quips, don't you think?
Simple reason, Hilary has sucked out all the money.
Back in May '03, Susan Estrich said the Clintons were sucking up all of the oxygen....and we all know what that meant...
I count my change.
