These days, you have to sign stuff to get more than two boxes of the poison (pseudoephedrine) that interferes with the natural production of nasal/sinus mucus. Does having a cold represent a state of health, or the proper operation of the body?

Irrelevant. Pseudoephedrine does nothing to affect the cold -- it only poisons the body's natural defense against further infection.
