Re your #45 -
"...We can't do any better in Rhode Island."
Alas; it's the same up here in Maine, with our 2 infamous RINOs.
Sen. Susan Collins, much to her credit (I actually find myself rather liking her on the odd occasion) has already announced that she's pro-Alito, despite her solidly pro-abortion ideology.
Every now and then she likes to throw us right-leaning Pubbies a bone by doing something right.
Olympia Snowe, on the other hand, was still hiding her cards under the table the last I knew.
Since her pivotal, if not "Sacred" issue of abortion "rights" is seen to be at stake, I would not bet much change on her voting to confirm... or even for cloture, for that matter, if it comes down to that.
Unless, of course, it's a done deal regardless of her vote, at which point she might pretend to be a Republican and vote with the Party ... again, to throw them - and us - a political bone to keep us occupied for a while.
At least untill November, when she's up for re-election.
That's probably why she isn't going to committ either way untill she can tell with certainty how close it's going to be.
We may not know which way she goes until the votes are actually counted and announced.
Do we have any other RINOS who are refusing to committ for or against at this point?
That may be why.
And I fully expect the Commiocrats to do whatever they can to obstruct and delay Judge Alito's confirmation, even if they are resigned to not being able to Bork him completely somehow.
They are utterly desperate, IMHO, and we might expect that no options are currently off of their table.
I hope that the Alito's have a good security system, BTW.
Remember; Ft. Gacey Park isn't that far away.
And it might not be a bad idea for us to remember them in our prayers.
Great tagline
Chafee's declaring he will vote against Alito may give Snowe the cover she thinks she needs to vote no as well. She has, like Chafee, stated she will not support a filibuster, IIRC.
This is no surprise to me. I figured right from the get-go that Chafee, Snowe and Collins were lost causes as far as confirming Alito was concerned. We have enough Dims (Ben Nelson, Byrd, and at least one of the Dims from the Dakotas) to cover for the NE RINOs, anyway.
