Democrats voted pro-defense 25% of the time. Republicans 75% of the time. That tells you what their stance is on national defense.

DU is back up and some poor guy is saying the DUmmies really won today because without their phone calls, e-mails, etc. there would have been no filibuster at all.

I hate to break it to this guy, but there was NO filibuster. If Frist's request for cloture had failed to get 60 votes, then there would have been a filibuster. That filibuster would have either succeeded in stopping Alito's confirmation (if cloture never did get invoked) or failed after a pretty good fight (if cloture was finally invoked on the second, third, fourth, etc. attempt). Or the filibuster could have been nuked by the nuclear option.

But since cloture was easily achieved on the routine first request from Senator Frist, there never really was a filibuster. It was a faux filibuster which never had the votes to block even the routine first request for cloture. It wasn't even close.
