PACIFIC HEIGHTS ITALIANATE VIEW MANSION

300 Sea Cliff

Click to Enlarge | Virtual Tour

One of San Francisco's most illustrious mansions, this home presides at the ultimate Pacific Heights location-the end of the Vallejo Street cul-de-sac bordering the Lyon Street steps and Presidio National Park. Designed in 1917 by notable architect Louis M. Upton, this palatial home offers 5 bedrooms and 5.5 baths on the main levels, plus private basement level staff quarters. This residence is extremely rare in every respect-from its regal scale and proportions (9,500+/- sq. ft.), to its unrivaled location and sophisticated remodeling that was featured on the 1995 San Francisco Decorator's Showcase. Vistas of the Bay, from the Golden Gate to the West, Marin County to the North, and the Berkeley Hills to the East are presented from the aristocratic entertaining chambers. A state-of-the-art designer kitchen, radiant morning rooms, and exquisite top floor media
room with views are among the many interior highlights.

The front approach is a dramatic European statement. A sculpted classical garden, maintained by the owner, precedes the ornate portico entry. The symmetry of the stone façade, with its characteristic details, embodies the Italian Renaissance penchant for balance on a grand scale. Inside, the impressive reception hall showcases high ceilings, molded pilasters, and a light-bathed staircase. Entertaining flows elegantly between the main salon, Art Deco-inspired library, stately dining room, adjoining solarium, and southwest garden.

Old World grandeur in the main public rooms is complemented by beautifully oriented, more modern spaces for media or family needs. One of the home's more recent achievements is a world-class, totally remodeled chef's kitchen. Exquisite cabinetry, top-of-the-line integrated appliances, a butler's pantry, and whimsical breakfast room set a stage of marvelous function and delight. Just off the kitchen the south garden is contained in a wonderfully private courtyard atmosphere. Before heading upstairs, don't miss the stunning guest powder room, which injects a chic modern dynamic to the classic architecture.

The meeting of natural light and fine architectural detail is fully experienced ascending the main staircase. One of the home's true interior highlights occupies the north end of the second floor-a large formal living room with massive carved marble fireplace and Bay outlook. Two bedroom suites, one with its own window-wrapped morning room, complete this level. Reaching the top floor, you will find a master suite with spa-like marble bathroom and pronounced vistas above the Palace of Fine Arts, Alcatraz, and San Francisco Bay. A large adjacent room makes the perfect master study or fifth bedroom. Along the sky lit hallway, there is also a cozy and bright media room ready for casual television moments. The top floor culminates with an enormous, youthfully energetic bedroom suite. Discreet elevator access delivers convenience to basement level and oversized 2+ car side-by-side garage with wine room. Approaching this residence at the western end of Vallejo Street, you have arrived at an exquisite meeting of home and site-a lasting impression reserved for the elite handful of San Francisco's finest homes.

I am sure the good senator will reconsider, sell the mansion and give the money to the poor just as the Kennedys and Heinz-Kerrys have done.

I want one.

All I have to do is marry a corrupt contracter, get elected to the city council and wait for a wingnut to shoot the mayor and a gay colleague? Sign me up!

(I actually have a direct personal history in SF with DiFi prior to her stint on the federal stage - I'm not a real fan - or could you tell?)

And it has been 100 years since the area experienced an earthquake that would knock this house down!

Not to worry. When the real estate bubble bursts [reports] this mansion may only be worth $ 12 million. Perhaps DiFi knows the bubble is about to *POP* and wants to sell it now to take some wealthy sucker for millions?
