To be fair, the translation on Catholic.org (New American Bible version) states, "You shall not kill" and the Douay-Rheims, the standard in the Catholic Church from 1600 to the mid 20th century states 'Thou shalt not kill'.

The Hebrew word ratsach does not refer to killing in general but to the malicious and unlawful killing of human beings -- murder. If it referred to the former we'd all be guilty of breaking the Commandment regularly -- swatting flies, slaughtering cows, shooting deer, etc.
