Daily, I'm reminded of the mixed emotions (well, not emotions, more a logical weighing of the facts presented to me) I have on Dubya, myself. Stop making me face them in the mirror, would ya? ;)
So I take it we should not put you down as a conservative.
"Keep your friends close"
There you go,underestimating George W again!
George W. has an ironic quirky sense of humor.
I like it! Putting out the message "don't go for the Dynasty thing" and run Hillary, knowing she cannot win.
I don't blame you. Sometimes I wish he wouldn't say things like this, but these are words coming from someone who unfortunately is not a very eloquent speaker. I wish he would have said it differently or even better not say it at all. But here we are, and the bush haters on FR not far behind.
Mike Pence I like among other conservatives, but if the beast wins the dem nomination he won't be able to beat her only because I think the '08 election will probably be the dirtiest yet of all U.S elections. Somehow I think George Sorros is still in shock after losing the 2004 election and is getting ready to spend and do even more to win in 2008. I still remember that 'that guy is so stupid he can't even speak english and we're gona beat the craps outa him in Nov and we got the backing' smirks on the face of John Fn Kerry almost everytime I was unfortunate enough to see him speak at a dem rally. All these attacks on the President is not only to weaken him but more importantly the effects they hope these attacks will have and are actually having on the whole Republican Party, it's one attack or investigation after another. The democrats have been campaigning for 2008 since right after the 2004 election , they are not letting anything get in their way, including treason by some. There is a big ugly storm coming and with the help of deep pocket 'hate all republicans' like georges Sorros, Hillary will be riding that storm and it will take someone with the weight, strength, personality, and belief of President Reagan to stop her.
Some think that a Hillary nomination will be a free ticket to a republican win in '08, not me and I don't care what the poles are currently showing. I just don't think Mike pence can beat HC.
But alas, we see that law and justice in this country has no teeth when it comes to traitors and criminals when they have occupied the catbird seat of power. The highest crimes can be committed against the American people, and there's no price to be paid. In fact, he is given the hero's treatment by a former Republican President, as if thumbing his nose at the rule of law and American justice in general. I'll say it once again, it's sickening! I'm sure that many FReepers here agree with me.
I couldn't care less if he's going around doing humanitarian projects like some Mother Theresa, justice is either for all of us or it doesn't really exist. It's a sham if it is only pointed towards the lowly and not the powerful.
That reminds me of the debates, specificly the last debate, I think, betwen GHW Bush and BJ Clinton. It was just unbelievable how GHWB just gave up.
Which is exactly why I like Mike Pence. McCain could beat Hillary, but who wants him? Giuliani won't get the nomination. George Allen is passable, but not as likeable or charismatic as Reagan. I also think he's a "beltway boy" in some ways. Mark Sanford of SC is also interesting.
I believe in most of the underlying beliefs of the conservative philosophy. I don't believe most Conservatives could get elected assistant butt wipe at a diarrhea convention.
Many conservatives operate from the same misconception in which the left engages. It is the belief that if they can just elect someone to office, their agenda will be enacted. You likely believe that and therefor live in a world of constant disappointment as elected official after elected official fails to do as you wish.
The key to success is to change the voting publics mind. One has to convert a majority of voters to a conservative position on an issue before that issue can be changed. It is super hard to change minds on a group of subjects or a philosoply. Changes have to be made one issue at a time. Those that try for eveything always fail.
It is never possible for a candidate to change voters minds. There is always a candidate ready to tell the moderate voter what the voter wants to hear. The choice is always vote for me .. I believe as you do. That is a lot easier way to get votes than say "To vote for me you will need to change your mind." When a candidate asks a voter to change his mind the answer is nearly always.. "Fat Chance!!"
That means change only comes when the rank and file of a movement makes its goal one of two things... either selecting candidates that mask real views to fool voters, or doing what it takes to change voters minds before election season.
The left has consistently disguised itself. The left plays moderate but acts liberal. The right plays conservative and as a result gets defeated.
You believe this is a nation of the politician, by the politician and for the politician. So you are looking to elect a politician that agrees with you. That is not very bright. Politicans will tell you what you want to hear, then when in office do what the majority wants. Their goal is always to get elected. Their goal is never to do what you want unless you are a strong majority.
Lincoln had it right. This is a nation of the people, by the people and for the people. If the Conservatives ever figure that out and appeal to voters not politicans they might get a majority of voters to agree with them.
Once a majority agrees with your postion politicians will fight to enact it into law. It is the way the system works.
Your are a typical far right conservative.. If I point out why you fail you accuse me of being a liberal.
As my Dad used to say .."Never tell a conservative how to win. They enjoy the misery of defeat far too much to listen to you."
It's no surprise that GHWB has become good friends with Clinton. People like GHWB are practically designed and bred to bend over for the Rats, without even knowing that they're doing it. It's also not much of a surprise that GWB seems to be going along with this. What a pathetic bunch this family can be.
Reagan did this, more or less. I also think Ken Blackwell has a chance of doing this in Ohio. Conservatives can win if they do several things:
-convince the public they're right
-appear to be conservative, but yet still a "nice guy" to the opposition (Reagan's most ardent opponents still admit they liked him personally)
-be someone NOT from the "beltway club" and SHOW it
The "Fire and Brimstone" conservative like, say, a Tom Tancredo might appeal to me or you, but generally can't convince the fuzzy masses to vote for him.
We have folks here going out of their way to concoct some rationale that strains all credulity to explain away what was presented in an obvious manner.
And then attack people who dare question the "Glorious Leader", or have doubts about where this leader is taking us!
It seems that the letter after the name means more than what they do, or how many promises they break....or who they associate with in an almost Stockholm Syndrome fashion!
LOL Do you buy the house brand of tin foil or one of the better known brands?
Dear cynical DD: I THINK YOU'RE RIGHT!
I would generally agree with you. However, I've seen your other posts and I am in no way feeling as hopeless as you are. The election of 2008 is still over two years away. We need some fresh blood in there on the GOP side, someone from outside the beltway that can WIN and do something real. A "fire and brimstone" conservative like Tancredo probably isn't the guy, he just can't appeal to enough mainstream people.
Someone like Mike Pence, or Tom Coburn, or Mark Sanford of SC can.
Any ideas?
Isn't' that the truth. Just look at a few of the things they say about the President.
"He wants to turn the U.S. into U.N., Mexican, or NWO slaves." -The favorite conspiracy theory.
"BuSHIT" -The favorite name the Bush haters use.
"Mexican Monkey in the White House"
And my person favorite are the comments that deserve a visit from the United States Secret Service.
Then of course if you don't agree with their warped ideas, they come back with personal attacks, stupid cut & paste B.S. that they've used a million times before, and then they stalk you around the forum so they can post more cut & paste B.S. whenever you say something they don't like.
I covered the 1980 campaign. I used to amuse my fellow reporters by doing my imitation of Reagan telling how the big evil corporation fired his daddy on Christmas eve. Reagan always sniffed as he related how his dad opened the envelope expecting a Christmas bonus only to find it contained a pink termination slip. It was the most emotional part of the Reagan 1980 stump speech.
Reagan in 1980 in every speech given in states with lots of union workers, held up his union membership card. Reagan would say, "Lots of politicans will tell you they are for the union worker... In my hand I hold the proof that I am a union worker!"
Reagan told the audience that he was the first candidate for president of the USA to be elected president of his union. Reagan also mentioned that he been re-elected president of his union. Reagan always mentioned what a good negotiator he was for his union members.
In every speech in the Midwest as well as north eastern states, Reagan mentioned that he had voted 4 times for Franklin Delano Roosevelt and that he (Reagan) had not changed his mind on issues. Reagan would say "It is the Democratic party that has changed, not me." He used the same line in the Reagan Carted debate.
I could go on with examples ... but you get the point.
In 1964 Reagan had decided to run for Governor of California in 1966. The problem was his Republican opponents were sure to paint the man who 2 years earlier had been a registered Democrat as a RINO. Cap Weinberger and Ed Meese were concerned that Reagan could not overcome the RINO label enough to win the 1966 Republican nomination for Governor of California.
They got the bright idea of contacting Goldwater and proposing that Reagan speak at the 1964 Republican Presidential Convention. Nearly all Republicans up for reelection in 1964 figured Goldwater was going down like a drowned duck. They wanted nothing to do with the Goldwater convention. Cap and Ed reasoned that if Reagan spoke for Goldwater on prime time TV at the Republican convention it would make it harder to paint Reagan as a RINO in 1966.
But when the media watched Reagan speak for Goldwater at the Republican Convention in 1964 he scared the crap out of them. The decided to paint Reagan as a Goldwater clone. In one hour Reagan went from a man with the image of a far left RINO to am image of a far right Goldwaterite. That presented a new problem. A Goldwaterite could get the Republican nomination for California governor, but could not get elected. Reagan had a new problem .. How to convince voters he was not a far right conservative in the Goldwater mold.
From then on until after his election to the presidency in 1980 Reagan spent huge amounts of time trying to convince voters that he really was what most of us would call a RINO. In fact in every speech north or south in 1980 Reagan claimed his economic plan was identical to the economic plan enacted by John F. Kennedy in 1961. Unless you think FDR, and John F Kennedy were economic conservatives, then Reagan did not run as a conservative. Reagan often compared his approach to foreign policy to that of Harry Truman.. Harry was not a conservative.
The media tried to make people believe Reagan was conservative. Reagan did all he could to counteract what the media did when it named him a conservative.
Anyone who thinks Reagan ran as a conservative in 1980 needs to spend some time reading the Reagan campaign speeches and watching his TV commercials from 1980.
Reagan accepted the label of conservative after the 1980 election .. but not before.
Conservatives can win electins if they get support from other conservative Americans and conservative FReepers. Americans who consider themselves politically conservative, naturally want to advance a conservative agenda for America. Obviously, Freepers like Common Tator aren't interested in advancing a conservative agenda for America. They'd rather undermine conservatism by outwardly expressing a distain for conservatives, under the guise that conservatives are as bad as liberals. Common Tator wants all conservatives to listen to his rhetoric, he wants them to cut and run from their conservative values and beliefs.
Common Tator is a status quo centrist. He calls Ronald Reagan a RINO. Imagine that. The most conservative POTUS this great nation has had since Calvin Coolidge and CT calls him a RINO.
Don't let him fool you. Common Tator is no conservative.
"Class" to the Clintons is a foreign word. They have none, and it should have been obvious when Clinton and Gore - campaigning in the 1992 election, went around the country called Bush 41 "Stupid"; as in, "It's the economy, Stupid."
McCain McCain McPain, AAAHHHH!
That is our dilemma isn't it. I can only hope as we approach 2008 the Republican choices are more attractive than they are now. Comes election time I wouldn't want to be holding my noze while I push/pull that lever for 'no torture whatsoever, CFR, and among other stupidities' McCain.
