Dynastic politics! Here we go again!
The MAIN problem with N.O. politics is that certain, powerful, families get entrenched and keep running their sisters/brothers/MawMaws/toddlers- whoever has the name recognition. And they get re-elected again and again and people wonder why things stay the same.
They will sell this candidacy on returning to the good ol' days ... and no one can doubt that even the days of Moon Landrieu were better than the post-Katrina days of Clarence Ray Nagin ...The dumbed down, ill-educated public has a memory span of about 30 minutes [the last TV show that mesmerized them]. They were oblivious to what went on in the last Landrieu administration ... or even that there was one. IIRC Moon Landrieu was succeeded by Dutch Morial in about 1978 ... and Landrieu then went to D.C. and HUD. 1978 was a long time ago ....
The only thing the Landrieux are interested in is to solidify their power [and hold on to it]. And, yes, if the governorship is not available this time around ... it will be a stepping stone for Mitch. Is this development an indication that John Breaux is coming closer to a decision to run for Governor and that New Orleans is the "plum" left for picking by Mitch?
It does not matter whether or not it is a chocolate city. It will be the uptown, white, liberals that elect this man ... just as they have elected the blacks that succeeded his father.
God help Louisiana. God help New Orleans. It all validates my decision to leave a state/city that I once loved very dearly.
