Isn't this guy the brother of the Governor?

Blanco is her married name, I think.

In any event, I think he is related to the Senator, Mary Landrieu...

Someone please help me with this and clarify.

Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu is Senator Mary Landrieu's brother. Governor Blanco's maiden name is Babineaux (sp?).

Well, maybe.

New Orleans was the major city. It will be the site of the major influx of federal funding post-Katrina.

Presumably the Gov. gets first crack at the graft statewide ... that leaves New Orleans for its mayor, perhaps ... Just a theory ....

Also, John Breaux, who has always cast himself as a "centrist" is tailor made to run for Governor. Breaux "trained" under the slickest governor of all time. Edwin W. Edwards. [Breaux was EWE's congressional aide before EWE ran for governor.] Breaux then went on to serve as congressman and senator. Mitch Landrieu does not have the statewide support or following that Breaux could snap his fingers and command. Landrieu could, presumably, pull together the old Landrieu crowd in New Orleans where his father served as Mayor. [I believe Moon left office in 1978].

I think this all boils down to whose power base is where.

Let’s prove we can handle money

Jim Beam

State officials need to quit bellyaching about Mississippi getting more flood relief than Louisiana and about President Bush rejecting a $30 billion homeowner-bailout plan. Their time would be better spent laying the groundwork for spending the $6.2 billion in hurricane relief we have already received.

With this state’s checkered political background, can you blame anyone for doubting our ability to handle billions of dollars in federal funds?

I remember Mitch Landrieu's father, former Mayor Moon Landrieu, whispering to me the day after Mary won her first election to the Legislature in 1979, "Mary is a great campaigner, but Mitchell is the natural politician in the family. Watch him."

Majority of that state is so corrupt .. I have no doubt it's about power ... and money

I wonder if Nagin will mention in the campaign how Mitch spent a million bucks before the hurricane in state money on a new office.

Mitchis a dream come true for all the white liberals in New Orleans who want to send a message that they want change without actually voting for change.

Uptown is hard-core dem and they turn-out to vote unlike the masses of the former Ninth Ward.

In any case Landrieu will be a much better option than Nagin and will be able to help the city get back up its feet as opposed to keeping in down.

A GOP candidate has no chance.

"Whadda career move"

"Goes from Lt. Governor to Mayor"

George Voinovich did the same thing in Ohio in the late '70s when he was elected Lieutenant-Governor with Jim Rhodes and quickly jumped in to run for Mayor of Cleveland. It ended up bolstering his chances of becoming Governor a dozen years later.
