Is that why the most liberal states have the worst problems and the most benefits for illegals?
I have yet to meet a lib that thinks this is as much of a problem and has as much desire to see the issue resolved as any conservative that I know.
If it does "cross party lines" among the general populace, then I'll still maintain that most people are conservative yet just don't know it for a variety of reasons. It's actually amusing, if you take someone that voted lib in an election, and then pin them down for "their own ideas" as to certain political issues, I've often found that they are all but conservative. Yet, for reasons of their own, usually extremely superficial as it can't be much else, they vote lib.
I live in a suburb outside of Los Angeles, In the middle of Dem country. There are long standing situations like, special order #40 that prohibit LAPD from complying with INS, on immigration issues and turning illegal aliens over to them. The problem is, there is a disconnect everywhere. INS, Border Patrol releases them, and what is the point.
The people I have spoken to, almost 90% want massive deportations, are tired of having to deal with a society that is bi-lingual, and feel like a foreigner in their own town. The illegal latinos here and you can tell who they are because many of them do not speak much english, are working the system, the system protects them, and the rest of us have our hands tied.
It becomes a catch 22 because the local govt says it is feds job, the feds say it is a local job. Everyone is passing the buck here.
Frustrating.
