A quick internet check shows that a mortar round might travel about 3500 yards. I'd be concerned about someone firing a few rounds then skedaddling. They'd be gone before any effective response would show up.

Your map is scary. My sister & brother-in-law live off of Dairy Mart Rd. I've seen plenty of BP down there, but they've got a lot of work to do. One night I saw what I thought was a bunch of kids on ATV's. It turned out to be BP on quads patrolling the brush around the Tijuana River.

As you can see, urban Tijuana runs right up to the border. It wouldn't be too hard to hide after firing at the US.

Absolutely. And that's the scariest of thoughts.

I need a permission slip to go south of the 94! :D My neighbor at work, she just paid $550k for a 3 bedroom house down off of Otay Lakes! And heck yeah, she lives within tossing distance of the border. I've gotten pretty adament about turning down offers of trips down to Mexico though. After what I saw last time last July, no way. Not ever again.
