This notion is anathema to your bleeding heart liberal these days. They think these people should be able to bring their 3rd world cesspool of a culture along with them as to bury the idea of an American dream.
I don't think there ever was a golden age of wonderful immigrants. There has always been friction between newcomers and the society. That is really grist for the mill that forces assimilation. speak english and get a job! as it were.
