Yeah, the discourse on this thread is disappointing.
First, I have to compare Woodruff to the despicable embedded reporter Kevin Sites, who slanted and reported a deliberately incendiary story from Fallujah that was dishonest, incomplete, deceitful, and downright traitorous in fact if not in law. Woodruff, on the other hand, has to my knowledge done nothing of the kind.
Second, having been in Iraq last year, I have to give credit to *any* reporter who has the gonads to go outside the wire to do their job, embedded or not. The risks are real and they are known. I will even give such credit to Sites, separating that from the fact that he's a moral cripple.
Finally, one has to compare the moral willingness of Woodruff to actually go into the field of action and to do a reporter's job, as opposed to sissyboy alleged "reporters" like Mr. Dee Dee Myers, who I have on firsthand information was visibly terrified that he'd be sent to Iraq as an embed, rather than sitting behind his comfy desk writing his childish anti-Bush, anti-Iraq stories.
I'm glad that Woodruff has survived, and I wonder how it will effect his reporting from here on out. Not that I'll ever watch ABC to followup.
