Indeed. My state is a weird one. Shays and our "Republican" Gov are both left of Dem Leiberman.
Bottom line: I should move.
To: SkyPilot
I didn't know that.
"Not that there's anything wrong with that!"

I suggest Shays go back to CT and leave the GOP alone. He's certainly out of touch with the party.
It's a sad state of affairs when someone from the press sounds more conservative than a Republican.
To: leadpenny
Yeah... that wuss Shays.
Him and his buddy Weepy Voinovich kept bolton off the UN and were crying about it... doing the democrats bidding.
Shays is a LIBERAL republican, but LIBERAL nonetheless.
I can't stand him.
Besides, hes the PERFECT kind of republican for the CSPAN crowd that will call in and pretend to be republicans and bring up immigration or spending, then get greedy and start mentioning iraq or "spying on americans" or halliburton, or whatever tinfoilhat BS.

This is certainly nothing new with northeast republicans. I think that the term used to be Rockefeller republicans... Socially liberal, and only moderate, when it comes to fiscal policy. Shays, Snowe, Collins, (formerly) Jeffords, and what's his name... The son of the senator who never met a gun ban bill that he didn't love...

Disappointed in the Club for Growth too. Altho Moore is no long with that organization.
They are supporting a democrat from Texas for Congress. They made a statement saying they think Congress needs mor democrats.
When I read that statement all I could think of was Salazar.

Yes, you should. I moved my family to nw Illinois (Chicago messes the state up, unfortunately) seven years ago. We did it largely because of the Traditional Catholic Church, but Illinois is very homeschooling friendly. Once outside of the Chicago area, the Motor Vehicle Department is a pleasure to deal with compared to the Connecticut inspection gestapo.
It's not perfect, due to Chicago (bad gun laws, miserable toll booth everywhere). However, our house on four acres is costing us a less than half what it would cost in Connecticut, and the out-of-Chicagoans are much more conservative in how they live their lives.
I loved the Wallingford, CT I grew up in, but it is gone. It is not coming back. The "real America" is in the south, and parts of the midwest, and in the non-coastal northwest. Flee Connecticut, revisit only to visit friends and family, and grab an apizza from New Haven.

Lincoln Chaffee? By the way, Son of a Senator is kind of salty language to be using around here!

Salazar on the ethics committee is putting a fox in the hen house. He looks peaceful enough but he's really a snake in the grass.
To: MarkL
As of Friday, Snowe, Collins and Chaffee had not indicated how they would vote on Alito.

Lieberman scored a "ZERO" from the ACU, Shays ain't gone that far off the reservation... yet.

Congressman Bob Dornan "outed" him years ago on the House floor. It was broadcast live on C-SPAN. I don't think Dornan had planned to do it. Shays had angered Dornan and other Republican during the debate on a bill introduced that had something to do with "Gay Rights."
Dornan said something to the effect: "I wish the good Congressman would be more honest with us. He is in, he is out, he is in, he is out.."
Bedlam erupted on the House floor. Angry Democrats started storming the Speaker's chair. Eventually, Dornan's words were "taken down."
Shays was livid, but was so embarrassed, he told the media he had no comment.

Good ole B-1. I think he came back to the floor after he lost his seat and almost got into a fight then.
