If we don't stop Iran with force, it's Vietnam all over again. The US would be seen as a paper tiger, and every tinpot terrorist would line up to take a potshot at the us. Bush doesn't have a choice -- any finagled 'agreement' with Iran at this point will be seen as a sham. This could all telescope drastically -- if we piddle around much longer and if Israel fails to act, they're gone. We'd have to take off the gloves....but too late for millions of Jews. Not an option Bush or the US could live with.

The war with Iran very likely will weaken USA. As a result it will weaken Israel and Israel will be forced to modify its basic policies in the direction of radical compromise with Muslim neighbors and to established closer relations with the European countries.

You seem to be fearing current conditions. America was not made weaker by war with Japan and Germany. It was made the most powerful nation in the world.
In this current climate the people of America have not sacrificed their comfortable life styles. They have not struggled with shortages that radicallly change their daily lives. They have not suffered the loss of hundreds of thousand of young people. These were the burdens of the war with the Axis. Are we capable of less than our grandparents? Is less demanded of us?
If Bush has failed to rally us to sacrifice it is because the demand for sacrifice is not yet required. The day will come when we will know that we are at war....

Not so.

America was a hundred times stronger in 1950 than in 1940 - and it wasn't ONLY that Roosevelt was dead and the Roosevelt Depression finally over.

Iran will be as easy as was Iraq.

And Syria even easier.

We will be made weaker because of the economic hit, probably, but it will be worth it for the military advantages. Iran with nukes won't be good for a stable supply of cheap oil either. Iran regime-changed will help end the Iraq war, without their $$$, the insurgency dies much more quickly. As for Israel, Iran is the greatest threat to their existence and the sugar daddy of their local terrorist groups: they gain by a de-mullahed Iran.

As far as $5.00 a gallon gas or higher and a massive recession, we will survive. Iran armed with nuclear weapons, we'll survive that too, but not as many of us.
