Even 3,000 miles away from Washington, Hillary Clinton couldn't resist zinging the Bush administration to a friendly San Francisco audience Saturday night.
``I've been absolutely amazed -- everyone should -- at the level of arrogance and incompetence,'' she said to wild applause. ``I don't believe I'm alone in that.''
The most-talked about undeclared presidential candidate for 2008 -- whom President Bush himself described Friday as ``formidable'' -- appeared before an audience of 1,800 at the Masonic Auditorium on Nob Hill for an interview with former NBC TV host Jane Pauley.
Aides say the event was designed to show that the ex-first lady and current New York senator is more than just an ardent campaigner.
Pauley's first question to Clinton was why does she think Americans would now accept a female president, as recent polls suggest.
``There's a feeling that it's time,'' she said. ``In the 21st century, people have come to accept individuals on their merits.''
The crowd reacted to that with resounding applause.
But her San Francisco welcome was not all rosy. Clinton showed up more than 30 minutes late to meet the liberal-leaning San Francisco Bar Association crowd. As happens at virtually every stop she makes outside the Beltway, the senator was met by anti-war protesters. About two dozen stood in the rain in San Francisco on Saturday, some wearing big theatrical ears, to decry her refusal to call for an immediate troop withdrawal from Iraq. They carried signs reading: ``Hillary, You Are Not Listening'' and ``End the War Now.''
About five minutes into the interview, three protesters stood in the upper balcony and yelled ``Hillary, stop supporting the war,'' and they were quickly escorted away.

She's like poop in a pasture on a hot day. Draws all kinds of flies and bugs and such.
I'll give this much .. she sure has some brass ones to make a comment like that
Oh and this comment about America being ready for a female President ... she's showing her cards
``There's a feeling that it's time,'' she said. ``In the 21st century, people have come to accept individuals on their merits.''
Wonder if this was her return to the plantation.
Wonder if she stopped by Al's new Condo.
Yawn. My prediction- Hillary won't run. She'll control the money and the Senate minority but she will read the tea leaves and decide against running. Billy Bentpecker will be served w/ divorce papers right after she makes the decision.
RED MAO jacket and the legendary black pants.
Still doing that HEAD BOBBING and plenty of YOU KNOW'S.
Why was she really here? Did someone tell her that Gavin "AnyTwoSome" Newsom was performing those ceremonies again?
What is it about dems and being late for functions..
wasn't Kerry constantly late during his campaign?
Talk about arrogance...it is keeping people waiting for you, like they don't have something better to do.
``I've been absolutely amazed -- everyone should -- at the level of arrogance and incompetence,''
I would accuse her and her ilk of that.
SICK.
Oh, man, my husband proudly became an American citizen in that same auditorium in 2003--it was a lovely building, why do I feel like it's been sullied now?? :-(

witches can do that
It it the epitome of arrogance!!! (That's why we call her "Hitlery!")
That really bugs me when an adult is always saying 'you know'. It reminds me of a teenager trying to get there point across.
She said she was particularly outraged about reports of unwarranted wiretapping by the National Security Agency.
``That is deeply troubling to me,'' she said. ``There's a differnce between giving up privacy under the rule of law and giving it up by executive fiat.''
Does she not remember FBI File Gate?
To trash the leader of the FRee world with such language and then expect to use that as a platform to run for the same office when we have apready seen how inept her hubby was and she is as well based on her healthcare and woeful record in the Senate..
Sick ain't the half of it. Delusional is more like it, imo.
Chris Lehane is quoted by both this rag and the SF Carbunckle as well that the CodePinko protesters outside her appearances is actually a good thing. They share her delusion.
