My wife borrows my stone to hone her instruments, I never seem to have it around when I need it. Instead I use this barely passable ceramic sharpener.

I used to keep all my knives shaving sharp and I have over a hundred. The Soft, then Hard, Arkansas stones are ideal for putting a razor edge on a blade.

In my old age, I have gotten lazy. I use a powered automatic diamond hone then dress it off with a ceramic rod or steel.

It is not quite as sharp but cuts well and is so much less trouble.
