The dimness of the man explains at least part of it. The rest has a lot to do with separatism borne of haughty disdain. Ironically, as he is attempting to disabuse Brokaw of the notion that Bush is the more intelligent, Kerry demonstrates this absence of mental agility in real time.

Hmmm ... Well I'll be darned. Poor dumb klutz earned better grades at Yale, too - and a Harvard MBA.
And a contemporaneous Good Conduct Discharge.
And achieved the rank of 'Commander-In-Chief.'
Guess the military, after all, knew what it was about?
But it ain't all roses for the poor feller.
Can't snowboard, windsurf USS Ronald Reagan-sized center-board yachts or play rent boy to and ride the 500-gallons-per-hour gas-guzzler Gulfstreams of other men's wives - though.
