Muslim World League calls on UN to validate cartoon rage

"Disdaining religion," eh? Such "insolence"! This is an increasingly strong challenge to a fundamental basis of a free society. If one is not free to write something critical of any belief-system or group, if any belief-system or group is held immune from such criticism, then freedom of speech does not actually exist. A free society means the freedom to reject, to criticize, even to ridicule. Without this freedom of speech and freedom of thought are hollow and meaningless.

"Muslim World League calls for UN interventions against disdaining religions," from the Kuwait News Agency, with thanks to Twostellas:

RIYADH, Jan 28 (KUNA) -- Muslim World League (MWL) called Saturday on the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan to activate international laws against insolence of religions.

MWL Secretary General Dr Abdullah Al-Turki condemned, in a letter addressed to Annan, the discretion of Prophet Mohammed (PBU) by Danish and Norwegian newspapers, which published cartoon depicting the Prophet in a disrespectful way.

Al-Turki said in the letter that Muslims around the world felt very offended by the unethical campaign, noting that international laws prohibited scorning religions and other hatred-provoking practices.

He stressed that UN should intervene to stop media campaigns against Islam, which might ignite clashes between different cultures.

Moreover, he called on Annan to immediately and directly contact the Danish and Norwegian governments to demand them to ban media campaigns against Islam and to officially apologize for the Muslim nation.

Al-Turki also called on the international community to adopt a clear law criminalizing individuals and institutions that disrespect religions.

A couple of years ago, I suggested activation of small units of Catskill comedians to ridicule TROP. Imagine the Mel Brooks Special Jokes Unit or the Shecky Greene Irregulars.

If they are shaken by jokes and cartoons, the foundation of their faith must be pretty flimsy.

JOKE 'EM!!!

Precisely.

How about the Islamic fascists in Malaysia?

"On April 25, 2005, two foreign Christian missionaries were arrested after distributing religious materials in front of a mosque in Putrajaya and were charged with "disturbing the peace in a religious manner." After 10 days, the Government dismissed the charges against the two men and released them."

Try taking a Bible into Saudi Arabia and see how you are treated.

Or a non-Muslim trying to go to Mecca. Can you imagine the uproar if an American city were off limits to Muslims? (Not that its a bad idea.)

Or even an israeli city. Imagine the protests if muslims were not allowed in Jerusalem.

One of the funniest passages in the Bible is the one where Jesus performs his first miracle. The turning water into wine miracle. His Mom says to Jesus, "Hey. Do that thing you do. We're out of wine." To wit Jesus proclaims "Mom. I wasn't put here to do tricks." But you know that his Mom gave him "the look", because he goes off & does it anyway. Imagine, the Virgin Mary giving Jesus "the look". Too funny!

No humor in islam. Just death & hate...

I agree....the leadership of islam are all lunatics and murderers, and I contend that it must be this way or islam will collapse anyway. Once the threat of murder and torture are removed from the "flock" most of them will leave on their own especially the women. What sane people would choose to live in a 7th century sh!t hole?

On a sidebar weird note...PBS is running a Walk the Bible series...(they're raising money.) Usually PBS affiliates treat Christians/Christianity like lepers. They must have decided church-going Americans have pockets they can pick.

Eh, it's all in the telling. I actually find it very amusing that she doesn't contradict Him; she just goes and instructs the waiters anyway. Very Mom-like.

Does he include the Muslim’s countries disrespect for Christianity and Judaism in his call for criminalization?

I guess that burning churches, temples, synagogues and murdering the congregations is okay. It's cartoons that really cross over the line. How can they not see the hypocrisy?

One of the funniest passages in the Bible is the one where Jesus performs his first miracle.

His parables and repartee are often hilarious. For example, the one about the servant who is fired by his master for unfaithfulness, and goes about making a lot of friends with his master's goods before he leaves. Jesus's remark is: "At least that guy faced the reality and did something about it. How about you sinners?"

Is it OK to joke about the human foibles of the Holy Family?

I am just shocked that Hollywierd has not picked up on doing Mohammad. They like to be cuting edge and they love insulting religious people. Come on piggy Moore, let's see Mohammad in your next smear the movie!

And the lefty commedians...Saturday night live - what no Mohammad skits? Stewart - have Mohammad report from Iraq about how he's going to chop Bush's head off! That would crack your lefty audience up!

All this material...where is our finger in the eye cultural elite? I thought lefties were sooooo courageous! I guess they are cowards, smearing Christians knowing Christians are not the dangerous haters Liberals claim.
