Heating oil use would be difficult to reduce, but recreational driving and multiple trips each day could be curtailed considerably

I remember doing some calculations a month ago, where it seemed like at current heating oil prices it was more cost effective to get a few electric heaters to supplement the main home heater

That's what I do, and the wood stove when it gets significantly cold. But, that will work until the municipal power utility has to raise prices, which could happen.
