A Navy pilot and student died when their training plane crashed and burned Friday in Corpus Christi, a military spokesman said. Lt. Jr. Sean Robertson said their identities were being withheld until their family members were notified. The two were in a T-34C turbomentor, a low-wing turboprop that has been in use to train Navy pilots since 1977. They crashed during a routine training flight into a field about 3 miles south of Naval Air Station Corpus Christi. The cause of accident under investigation. Earlier this month, a two-seat Navy T34 training plane was forced to make an emergency belly landing in the same area. Neither of that plane's two-member crew was injured.

Is it possible that "their identities are being withheld" because they're from a "protected" group who we don't want to advertise as having crashed, or am I just too cynical from all the years of affirmative action PC BS?

Since when is a turbo-prop labeled a jet Could it have anything to do that it is a jet engine that transfers it's power to a propeller....just a guess

Yes it does say "until their families can be notified" but since I'm not in the military I don't know if that's an evasive term or not. Was just asking, but forget about it.

Withholding the names of crash victims, or other line of duty casualties until the families can be notified, is SOP, regardless of the ethnicities or gender of the individuals involved.
BTW, did you see that the USAF Thunderbirds have picked their first female team member. She's an F-15E pilot just back from a combat tour in SW Asia. IIRC, she'll be flying #3 in the diamond come next season.

It's not an evasive term. It's policy.

That's nice. I truly don't have any problems with anyone's personal success, but I remember when women were just entering the military and one navy woman pilot crashed while landing on a carrier, and at that time a civilian woman pilot was involved in a fatal airline crash, but the fact that they were women was only at the very end of each report.
I also remember when the first women went on a carrier deployment nine got pregnant (or thrown off the ship for having sex) but this first co-ed tour was reported as a "rousing success" nevertheless (I think Limbaugh talked about it). I even remember one woman sailor at the time had a baby on a ship!!
So I'm probably thinking of a different time which, while not that long ago, is still most likely a different era. I think I'll just put all those old military and gender impressions on the shelf and leave them there, and start again fresh.

They were assigned to Training Squadron VT-27. The plane crashed near Waldron Field in Flour Bluff, a WWII era landing field that's used to practice "touch and goes", or landings and take offs.

I don't know if it's the same jets but some of those planes are very fast. It's awesome to drive to San Antonio and see them out practicing. It's like "where did it go?":) Prayers for the family.

I think I'll just put all those old military and gender impressions on the shelf and leave them there, and start again fresh. Sounds like an excellent idea. Take each person and case on their own merits, or demerits as the case may be.

Yeah those are the ones. I think lol. They are fast. I know you have seen them. My husband drives thru Kingsville because I tend to keep my eye on the sky:') Funny, actually because I don't like to fly but I like watching them.
