"At first, the mainstream media arrogantly dismissed the newcomers, arguing that the result of this wild media world will be a miasma of untrustworthy news sources."
The MSM wanting, of course, to be the public's SOLE source of untrustworthy news.

"Unfortunately, many members of the mainstream media feel threatened by the competition."
That's because they are doing such a sad and sorry job. They're being forced out of their comfort zone-the one where they do as little as possible.

They want their old monopoly back? Too late - hey, even the CBC in Canada can't take over the blogs. That horse has fled the barn. The MSM is simply going to have get used to the fact its no longer the gate-keeper of news and information, period.

Not all blogs, unfortunately, are created equal. There are some excellent ones, well worth reading. Most blogs, however, are worthless as sources.

Ever since the blogs brought down Howell Raines and Gerald Boyd at the New York Times 2.5 years ago, you'd think the MSM would be a bit more careful about their storytelling. The Rathergate fiasco showed that they never learned from that experience.
