Do people know Ford makes a luxury Sedan called Ford-500.
I have never heard of it.
Went truck shopping, and the dealer said, just like Mercedes makes 500, Ford makes their own 500.
How innovative!
From an Edmunds review. The 500 is essentially a Volvo:
"The Five Hundred and Montego are the first Ford products to take advantage of the company's controlling stake in Volvo. They're built on the same platform Volvo uses for its S60 and S80 sedans, V70 and XC70 wagons and XC90 SUV, and make extensive use of Volvo safety and all-wheel-drive technology. Ford is upfront about this relationship, and indeed any mention of Volvo is apt to be a plus when you're selling family cars."
Ford made a piece of junk in the 1970s called the Galaxie 500. They just brought back the name of a lousy car. The original 500 was full size. The current version is somewhat smaller.
I can see recycling the Thunderbird and Mustang names. The original versions of those cars were nice. But the 500?
The 500 has been described as a car so nondescript that you probably wouldn't
even notice one until it hit you.
Also rated as underpowered, which perhaps did help it get a top-level
ratings safety...too slow to get into trouble.
Thanks to another poster I now understand why it is a safe car...
NOT designed in Detroit, but by Volvo in Sweden.
