I now think a lot of things on the Bush agenda will get passed.
WE are back to the situation where Lott is essentially running the senate.. that means we have a man who can get 5 democrats to vote his way.
As long as filibusters are legal nothing can be done as long as 55 or fewer Republians are the only votes we have. Lott has in the past managed to pry 5 Democrats loose to vote for Cloture. When he does things get passed.
Playing up to Democrats in order to get their votes has a lot of Republicans angry. If the Democrats have 41 votes they will always filibuster. It takes a majority leader who can get 5 democrats to vote with Republicans for cloture for anything to get through todays Senate. lot of people on our side would rather fight and lose than make deals with Democrats and win.
It takes along time to make the friendships and know where enough bodies are buried to get things through the senate. Frist could not hold all the Republicans let alone attract the Democrats it takes to win.
But whatever gets the job done! I'm not big fan of Lott, but he certainly knows how to work the levers. Frist, while I'm sure he's a nice guy, simply lacks the overall effectivity that a Senate leader must have. IMHO.
Again, thanks for your insight.
I know that you are right, but for some reason (prior experience) I can't believe that the dims will not attempt some underhanded move on Tuesday.
Not sure they won't. DiFi has changed her mind (to vote against cloture) and some others I understand too. I hope the Dems make themselves look as stupid as possible, and they pull the nuclear option on them!
I actually think Kerry is stupid enough to believe he is going to get the nomination in 2008! That is hard to believe, but I do.
I would bet that their plan is to get as close to the filibuster as possible but to keep just back from the edge in order to play to the moonbats.
That's what I mean about him and al gore. Nothing much else is important except their desire for power.
I don't really think the Dems can do anything to make themselves look sillier than they already have. The Alito hearings backfired on them bigtime.
Yup.
