Estonia to start ratifying the EU Constitution in February (the UnConstitution returns)

On January 16, the Constitutional Commission of the Estonian Parliament sent for the first parliamentary reading a bill on the ratification of the European Constitution. The commissioners propose adopting the bill in the first reading on February 8, the press service of the Riigikogu informs REGNUM.

Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Paet says that the European Constitution is useful for the country and there are no reasons for not considering or ratifying it. Today moods in Europe are quite different from what they were a year before, when France and the Netherlands rejected the Constitution.

To remind, supporting the bill in the coalition is the Party of Reforms, including Prime Minister Andrus Ansip and Foreign Minister Urmas Paet. The Centrist Party and the People's Union propose holding a nationwide referendum on the EU Constitution.

The EU Constitution has, to date, been approved by Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Slovenia, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Greece, Slovakia, Austria and Germany. In France and the Netherlands nationwide referendums voted against the Constitution. In the UK the issue has been put off.

The EU Constitution will take force Nov 1 2006 provided that all the EU countries approve it.

Yep I was right, To Dave and Stoney's surprise, the frozen Neanderthal soon comes to life, and after a bath, a shave, and a new set of clothes, the boys are passing off their dim-witted-but-friendly companion "Link" as an exchange student from Estonia.

Well, to date, they're short at least 7 putze...er, nations from approval, which nations' approval will not be seen this year.

This little statement from the so-called ''news media'' demonstrates only one thing: the Wonderlander ''news media'' is at least as incompetent in reporting and dealing with facts as are their American counterparts.

Historically, though, this is an interesting development. The Letts are heirs to the old Hanseatic League, who -- love 'em or hate 'em -- contributed hugely to the development of trade, commerce, and industry in Northern Europe for several hundred years.

My apologies, twice.

Once for not closing the (i) tag, and twice for omitting the Esth from the comments. Same deal for the Esth and the Letts as regards trade, of course.

Type in haste, repent in leisure. Again, my apols for the shabby post.
