WASHINGTON (AP) - Lawyers for a former top White House aide charged in the CIA leak investigation said Thursday the prosecutor should surrender a wide range of information about news organizations and their reporters, including The Washington Post's Bob Woodward. Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald has failed to disclose information that would enable the vice president's former chief of staff, I. Lewis ``Scooter'' Libby, to properly defend himself, his attorneys argued in papers filed with U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton.

My guess is that this is the end of all this crap. The news media is going to resist and the judge will then have to throw out the indictments.
He's not asking the news media, he's asking the prosecutor.
The prosecutor is legally obliged to make this information available to the defense, isn't he?
Fitzgerald was looking for a scapegoat to justify the expense of his investigation into a case with no reason for being. Its starting to look like he may have scaped the wrong goat. Libby is fighting back and it could get smelly for the MSM and Fitzgerald and hopefully for a few Dems.
We all knew this was coming and it's going to be so much fun to see the reaction from the Lamestream.
They are going to circle the wagons like nobody has ever seen. Each and every person called to testify will be trying to break Judy's time served record so they can get book deals too.
Get your popcorn ready! The show is about to start.
I'm looking forward to this story as it grows additional legs. If it all goes foreward, I want to see Andrea Mitchell on the stand trying to say she never said or misspoke on Chrissy's show regarding "everyone in DC knew Val worked for the CIA". And if ANdrea knew, surely her boss, Timmy knew it too.
We will see if the whole thing gets thrown out of court or if the old media folks are made to take the stand.
Either way....its going to be fun.
I am quite certain Fitzgerald never asked the reporters about info they'd learned from other sources, and this motion is designed to make him admit it. Once he does,(a)the unfairness of the prosecution is manifest, and (b) Libby sets the stage for thorough discovery of the reporters' independent knowledge about Plame.
As the World Turns...
Yesterday, the government.
Today, the press.
I'm loving this!

I demand that this person be served with a subpoena!

I believe you predicted this! We have too much stuff to pay attention to. And I am babysitting two days a week and am getting behind!
Exactly! We need SNOW here so we can claim being housebound!
Libby would have the right to produce testimony that tended to show many reporters knew about Ms. Wilson's CIA employment and that Russert did make the statement Libby allegedly attributed to him, but that Russert had forgotten about it, the court filing stated. The defense says it also has a right to show whether other reporters knew about Ms. Wilson's CIA employment and were discussing that fact with government officials, ``some of whom in turn may have shared such information with Mr. Libby,'' his lawyers said.
I need at least a week to catch up on everything, and I'm just not going to get it!
Now I have to go to bed, as I have an early doctor appointment tomorrow.
The best thing to come of this is that the DImLibs haven't got any cover for the "whistleblowers" at the NSA.
Libby is gonna skip sure as the world (he should, he didn't do anything!)
They really have to practice to be this stupid.
Hey! That means they're all going to be in jail during the elections!
