4 GOP Senators have not pledged to vote 'YES' or 'NO'. Stevens, Collins, Snowe, and Chaffee.

so they abstain and swing the vote to the Dims : 49 no /46 yes / 4 abstain ? (or something like that?_

51 GOP votes for Alito.

3 Dem votes for Alito.

That's 54 Votes for confirmation so far.

4 GOP Senators who will all likely vote for Cloture but all may not vote for confirmation.

2 Dem Senators who will vote for Cloture.

There are 55 Republicans, 44 dems and 1 dumbass. Thus it would be 51 yes, 45 no, 4 idiots. But, some dems have agreed to vote for Alito. Ergo the yes votes (counting the abstensions) are 53, I think.
