Would one of the Allen supporter fill me in on the missing elements of his bio? I can't find a thing about him before he started in politics in the VA state house, except these items. BA history and JD from UVA, clerked for some judge I hadn't hread of in 77-78, and divorced his first wife in 1983, the year he entered the VA state house.

I assume he got student deferments? He turned 18 in 1970. Does he have any military service? I assume not since he would highlight it if he did. Did he go straight from undergrad to law school? I assume so, and that he clerked right after graduating from UVA law. What was his career track from 78 to 83? It looks like he has been pure pol all his life. Just want to know the facts, and I don't find them on the web anywhere (his own page's bio starts with the state house, basically).

Condi's nomination would be the Democrats' worste nightmare. 90% black vote to the Democrat nominee by default? Bye-Bye (probably would drop to 60%). Democrat tired 'uncle-Tom' arguement? Bye-Bye.

If Republicans can stomach some of her down sides and end up nominating her it would make for a fun campaign season.

Pro-life is pro-life from conception forward. The 2008 Republican nominee for the Presidency must be no less.

As for W, so long as he appoints Alito-caliber judges, he will be fulfilling his promise to the Right-to-Life movement.

So you agree the President is not pro Life by that definition, but still deserving of support of the Pro Life movement. Why cannot Rice receive the same?

Rice/Allen...or Allen/Rice.... I like it...

My alternate choice would be maybe Newt...

No way on McCain.... He loves to be a pet in the media... I want someone who does not care what the Media thinks...

Let's look at that from another angle: why should I or any other pro-life conservative settle for any less than the best possible candidate, with regards to the abortion issue?

Actually, nominating Dr. Rice would be every social liberals dream: no matter who won the election, Rice or the Democratic nominee, they'd have a social liberal in the White House.

That's why Dick Morris is lobbying so hard for Rice to be the Republican nominee.

Because the best possible candidate with respect to the abortion issue might be very weak on the war on terror, strongly inclined to raise taxes and believes that gays should have the right to marry. And he or she might also be incompetent.

You're setting up straw men... there are any number of potential candidates who are 100% pro-life, and it is highly unlikely that any such candidate would support gay marriage. Conservatism on social issues tends to come as a package deal.

None of which is the point. The point is it is possible Condi Rice is as staunchly conservative as GW Bush, and he has been supported by the party and conservatives in general.
