Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan repeated the country's request to Russian leader Vlamidir Putin during a telephone conversation to increase its gas supply following a drop in the supply of natural gas from Iran.
In response to Erdogan's request, Putin promised to help Turkey despite the drastic seasonal conditions in Russia.
The Russian leader also invited Turkish President Ahmed Necdet Sezer to Russia.
Asking Russia to give full support to Turkey on Cyprus, the Turkish prime minister emphasized, "Turkey continues to support the scaled solution efforts as part of the United Nations good will mission."
Erdogan requested support from Putin as a member of the United Nations Security Council by putting forward the notion that it is advantageous to remove the limitations preventing economic and social improvements in Cyprus and the surrounding region.
Putin, emphasizing the UN is supposed to play the main role in the Cyprus issue, said the Russian administration will continue its efforts to find a solution to encourage the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) to improve its economy.
