First they give the US government all records of searches. Then they agree to censor results for red China.

Corporations have no soul or national allegiance.

Those cute cuddly Chinese!
Just love them. And they love us. Our systems are completely compatible. So, let's send some more manufacturing there! Communists are ok, as long as they're capitialist communists, right?

"Corporations have no soul or national allegiance."

Their soul is their annual report. Their allegiance is to profit. That's all that matters, right?
I mean, if Nike paying big dividends, but using 12 year old girls at 12 cents a day, are you going to dump their stock?

Our [Google's] informal corporate motto is "Don't be evil."

Now being changed to "Don't be evil - well, not too evil at least."

So much for the corporate motto of "Don't be evil".

How dare a private company agree to local regulations just to sell their product! They shouldn't be allowed to make their own decisions - after all it is obvious this was just because they wanted to expand their market in a place where not censoring meant no service at all. The nerve of these guys! /sarc

Google isn't the only search engine. Based on the human rights violations by China alone... I will choose to use anything but Google for my searches.
Shouldn't we as consumers take a stand against a company that would so willingly hop into bed with the Chinese Govt.?

Actually, they were the only ones to resist the US government searches. But no problem for the Chinese! This actually makes me more mad at them than if they had rolled over for both the US and Chinese governments. Now they look like they're anti-US.

Thanks for pointing that out. Not only are they more than willing to help suppress freedom in China, they refuse to help our own government fight terrorism.

Yup. It's just a matter of time before they start censoring all "hate speech" on the internet, defined to mean criticism of homosexuals, criticism of anti-marriage policies and disagreement with government policies.
