In Case You Missed It: Former DNC Chairman, Governor Ed Rendell (D-PA) Supports Judge Alito
Republican National Committee ^ | January 24, 2006

Posted on 01/24/2006 6:49:28 PM PST by RWR8189

From Fox News' "Fox News Live"
January 24, 2006

Former DNC Chairman, Governor Ed Rendell [D-PA]: "I Believe He's A Qualified Judge. He Sits On The Third Circuit Court Of Appeals In Philadelphia. I Don't Know If You Know This ... My Wife Is A Third Circuit Court Judge."

Fox News' Bill Hemmer: "I'm Aware Of That, And Your History In Philadelphia Should Give You Pretty Good Knowledge Of Him."

Rendell: "Right. She Has A High Opinion Of His Integrity And His Academic Standards. She Disagrees With Him On A Number Of Cases And Agrees With Him On Some. I Disagree With A Lot Of His Positions On Cases, But I Think The Tests Should Always Be One Party Wins The Election. As Long As The Supreme Court Justice Is Appointed Who Has High Academic Qualifications, Significant Integrity And Judge Alito Certainly Does, We Should Confirm Him Regardless Of Our Disagreement On The Way He May Interpret One Aspect Of The Law. I Think We've Fallen Into Such Partisanship In D.C., Not Just In This But In So Many Things, That It's In Some Way Ways Tearing The Country Apart."

Hemmer: "[H]ow Do You Think Your Democratic Colleagues Did On This Committee During This Process? Were You Proud Of Them?"

Rendell: "[I] Wasn't Pleased. Certainly Some Did Well But Some Didn't. I Wasn't Pleased At The Nitpicking. I Think We Need To Go Back To The Days [When] One Party Wins. No One Fought Harder For John Kerry Than I Did ... But [President Bush] Won The Election, And As Long As They Give Us Qualified Candidates ... Sam Alito, Unanimously Recommended By The American Bar Association, A Qualified Judge."

Call me crazy, but I've always had a soft spot for Ed. Even when he was involved in the 2000 Florida stuff, he seemed like the most reasonable of the Democrat lot.

Former USC Trojan flanker Lynn Swann is bearing down on him.

The catch is easy: as a has-been, he does not need to curry favors anymore.

I have no such soft spot since the sumbitch is my governor. Like a typical Dem, he tried to soft-sell his gambling plan to reduce property taxes but it went over like a lead balloon when school districts realized they would be ceding much of their powers to the state by going along with it.

So now Rendell wants to shove it down their throats.

But I will give him this.

He's not a dumbass. He knows a losing cause when he sees it, and the Alito hearings are a losing cause.

Amazing how having someone like Lynn Swann as your opponent concentrates the mind.

I met Rendell when he was mayor of Philadelphia. He is in fact quite personable and really does know his sports. He is a typically shady big city politician, and I would enthusiastically vote against him as Governor of PA or any other important office. Still, he has enough grounding in reality to stay away from the very worst radicalism of the Rat party.

Next post is right. There's a catch to this. He's a rabid anti-gun radical. This business that "oh well Bush won and so long as the nominees are qualified....[enter buzzer sound here]. If Bush JRB or someone like her, call Ed up and see how he doing then.

Ed Rendell is featured in INDICTNG HILLARY. He is the one who first sucked in Peter Paul to start giving money. Two million bucks later, they disavowed him and have been lying about the contribution for five years. Ed Rendell did not declare the 30K Peter gave for an Algore fundraiser at the Beverly Hills hotel. It was amazing how he was hitting on Peter's wife. You'll love to see that on video.

My take on the gambling/school thing was that PA school districts had a lot of gall to deny voters any direct control over millage increases. I've lived in three states and PA is the only one where voters don't get to approve school tax hikes. So, I wouldn't mind Rendell trying to force districts to take the gambling money.

He doesn't get a vote, though. Give him a vote, and he'll announce that he's opposed to Alito.

I didn't know about his anti-gun stand. But he sure doesn't talk much about it. PA carry laws (outside Philly) are very loose.

Yeah, but he sold it as voluntary to get it through.

But screw that, we're having thundersnow in Montgomery county right now.

Here in State College we had a 15 minute snow squall earlier this evening with flakes the size of golf balls.

I haven't seen thundersnow since 1987.

But I'll take this event over that one. This one might leave a coating. That one left two stinkin' feet of snow when four inches was forecast.

Yea - there is. He's running behind in the polls against Lynn Swann. He's tacking rightward but doing it on Hemmer's show, when most people are working.

In deference to his upcoming opponent, this is zone coverage with soft corners.
