Texas — Men dressed as Mexican Army soldiers, apparent drug suspects and Texas law enforcement officers faced off on the U.S. side of the Rio Grande...

...Texas Department of Public Safety troopers chased three SUVs, believing they were carrying drugs, to the banks of the Rio Grande during Monday's incident.

Men dressed in Mexican military uniforms or camouflage were on the U.S. side of the border in Texas...

...included an armed standoff involving the Mexican military, suspected drug smugglers and nearly 30 U.S. law enforcement officers. ...Mexican military Humvees were towing what appeared to be thousands of pounds of marijuana across the border into the United States.

...in the Bulletin on Jan. 15 that said the Mexican military had crossed into the United States more than 200 times since 1996.

...Border Patrol agents called for backup and were joined by Hudspeth County deputies and DPS troopers. Mexican army personnel had several mounted machine guns on the ground more than 200 yards inside the U.S. border...

...deputies captured a Cadillac Escalade that had been reported stolen from El Paso, and found 1,477 pounds of marijuana inside. He said Mexican soldiers set fire to one of the Humvees stuck in the river.

"It's been so bred into everyone not to start an international incident with Mexico that it's been going on for years,"..."When you're up against mounted machine guns, what can you do? Who wants to pull the trigger first? Certainly not us."

After the...reported on Mexican military crossings, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said the report was overblown and most of the incursions were just mistakes.

In November,...Border Patrol agents...called for help after confronting more than six men dressed in Mexican military uniforms. The men allegedly were trying to bring more than three tons of marijuana across the Rio Grande...

...I do wonder what the disconnect is with the Feds and actual border security. I would understand it if the dems were in control- they would probably set up welcome stations, but we are in charge now....

We who?

Google search North American Community.

It's not a disconnect, its treason.

Mr. Chertoff, the setting up of crew served weapons, 200 yards on *our* side of the border, can hardly be classified as an "innocent mistake"....

Talk is cheap...he needs to get them down there now! Oh I forgot he is Iraq...He will get my vote if he has the stuff to actually put the national guard on the border in numbers large enough to stop the illegal immigration and smuggling.

Actually, that photo was taken on the day of our final exams. Those of us who survived advanced to the next grade.

One more reason to support Perry. He actually is trying to use the Guard on the border.

Trying and doing are two different things. I've been hearing empty promises from the Governor's mansion going back to the 1990s, and I have no reason to believe them anymore now than I do when they were first made.

Guess the boys at Ft Hood could come out and get some live fire exercise experience. That might reduce 'innocent mistakes'.

I'm going to revise my solution. Instead of 3 million "bouncing betty" land mines, up it to 20 million.

That will discourage them.

out of curiosity - how often do US soldiers stray into Mexican territory?

Even before the advent of GPS, it was a *very* rare occurrence, as higher command *really* frowned on tactical units straying into the territory of a sovereign nation and possibly causing "an international incident". Those officers who did so were usually relieved of command, and their military careers would come to a sudden, drastic halt.

These days, with GPS for land navigation purposes, it's for all intents and purposes impossible for a US military unit to inadvertantly stray across the border...

The first time those set up machineguns got wasted by 81mm mortar fire, perhaps these bozoes would get the message...

I was thinking something more personal - 35 mm or a TOW from a M2/M3 Bradley

I'm sure the roadblocks are State Department folks with no spine..

The roadblocks are State Department folks alright, but it is *not* due to lack of spine, but something more sinister, it's due to "the advancement of the agenda" (one-world government, whether *you* like it, or not)...

Sure, but the question begs, why? Why put a single one of our troops in harm's way unecessarily? A couple of 81 mm's from a half-mile or so out does the job just fine, and the only one risked *might* be the forward observer...

I just wrote the Governor and asked him to send the guard to the border now. I would suggest any other Texas freepers who feel this way write him as well his address is: Office of the Governor PO Box 12428 Austin TX 78711-2428

I called my senators and congressman about this today.

Congressman Wolf's office had the decency to sound interested. His aide asked for the address to the referenced article and took my personal information. He's been involved in the battle to combat MS-13, so this issue may be nearer to his heart.

Allen's and Warner's offices gave me the standard, "I'll pass along your concerns."

Me: Hi. I'm calling to let you know there's foreign military presence on our soil. This is a bad thing and I'm unhappy about it.

Them: *yawn* I'll let him know.

I don't call my senators often so I'm not sure what I should expect when I do. Is it SoP for Senator's aides to sound disinterested in whatever issue you call about?

Perry better make some noise along the border because I'll guarantee you the tough little grandma running against him will be down there with the Minutemen this summer. He's prettier than she is, but she is a lot meaner!
