Unions weren't always anti-American. There was a time when plenty of patriotic men and women belonged to them; then the leadership got greedy 'kill the goose...", I doubt very much that people would like to work in pre-union conditions pf the early industrial revolution, but POWER is the biggest tempter of all and once union leadership got a taste of it it was all over; the damn leadership of the AFL-CIO and UAW sold out their own members faster than the communist party in the USSR. Most union leadership suffers from exactly the same malady as their alleged nemesis, the corporate executive- in both cases the attitude is 'why not set everybody else up to be screwed in five to ten years, I'll have my fat retirement package and be outa here'.

I have friends in the IBEW that damn well realize that the unions have a perfectly valid function: to make sure that a Union laborer is trained, up to date on safety and has their own pension and health benefits- this a union can do well and is in no way incompatible with capitalism. I know a few teamsters and believe me, they'd kick Bin Laden's ass just as fast as any reader of frontpagemag:-)

I never meant to imply that union were un-American. You nailed with what you said about power. My father hated being on strike. But being a coal miner in WV, he had to not work when there was a strike and do his time on the picket line. There were a few wild-cat strikes that my father was positive was caused by someone needing a couple of days off.

The strike that always ticked him off was the contract strike. The union and company would never agree when the contract was up. The strike would last 3 or 4 weeks and they everyone would agree to what was on the table just before the contract expired.

He made good money and we always had food on the table. But my father loved to work.

A lot of the union bashers on this board choose to forget the good old days of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire, company police, company towns, being paid in scrip at the company store, how lethal coal mining used to be...

But getting to "Book of Daniel", there was only one national advertiser left. Burlington Coat Factory. I am guessing that they made the decision to bail and that sealed it for the series.
