WASHINGTON -- President Bush has long cultivated the image of a macho rancher, frequently donning his boots and Wrangler jeans to clear brush on his sprawling Texas property. But he was decidedly noncommittal today and even a bit nonplused when asked for his reaction to the most talked-about ranching film in years: "Brokeback Mountain."
"I hadn't seen it," Bush told thousands of students and professors at Kansas State University, responding to a query from an audience member. "I'd be glad to talk about ranching, but I haven't seen the movie."
The movie, featuring the love story of two gay cowboys, this month won the Golden Globe award for best motion picture drama and top honors from the Producers Guild of America and is showing remarkable success even in conservative, red-state towns and cities that helped reelect Bush.
But if Bush intends to see it, he showed no such desire today when the young man in the crowd raised the idea toward the end of a lengthy, unscripted and unexpected question-and-answer session.
---
"You would love it," the questioner persisted. "You should check it out."

It was meant to embarrass him and/or trip him. I seriously doubt the gays care what the president thinks of their movie.
I seriously doubt if too many people who re-elected GWB went to see this movie, no matter what color the state is.
And let's not get too carried away here ... the movie has grossed $42m. Pretty decent, but hardly a blockbuster as the media is trying to proclaim it as.
Should have said "I hear there are sheep herders in it".
Either that, or s/he was one of the small percentage of babies born with indeterminate gender equipment.
Either that, or it was a total put on. I'm convinced at least some of the oddball stuff is deliberate just so the individuals stand a better chance of getting on TV.
BTW, the two geniuses were hilarious. I could NOT believe it when the "entrepreneur" pulled out multiple versions of his checked suit and hat in different colors.
Ah...but Ace came along to save the day. Whether or not he's straight, he at least comes across as such. And he's got a killer smile that sure made my female heart skip a few beats. Unfortunately, he doesn't seem to have that strong a voice. But at least we get to see him again in Hollyweird.
You think Zachary is a girl!?
You're clearly homophobic. Expect a call from GLAAD in the morning!
:)
In the years I've lived in L.A., I've yet to see any evidence that anyone over at the Times thinks.
Of course it was meant to embarass, there is always someone willing to trap.
Where did you get my picture?
I think the guy who was asking Bush if he saw it was just trying to make him look like an idiot...or bait him into saying something about homosexual behavior.
And that's why we're going to have homosexual marriage in a few years if things don't change. It's alright, I'm college age, too, and it seems to me that far too many conservatives are accepting this kind of garbage.
But people grow. Perhaps.
i don't beleive the la times. i dont know anyone who seen it
It already has been spun by the L.A. Times. Check out the loaded phrases in their first paragraph of the article:
WASHINGTON -- President Bush has long cultivated the image of a macho rancher, frequently donning his boots and Wrangler jeans to clear brush on his sprawling Texas property. But he was decidedly noncommittal today and even a bit nonplused when asked for his reaction to the most talked-about ranching film in years: "Brokeback Mountain."
Translation: 1) GWB's macho cowboy image is false. (2) He didn't have the courage to state an opinion about the movie when asked. (3) He's out of touch with the American people.
No, he wouldn't. Bush is "normal"!
The ears and hair remind me of Cindy Sheehan.
Remember, the bigger the flash bulb, the more translucent the top!
Some psychiatrist is going to get very rich figuring out Zachary. I mentioned on another thread that I think he believes he really can sing, just like he sees nothing abnormal about his appearance.
He's delusional. And His mom is an enabler. She probably never said "no" to him about anything.
Twisted.
